Principal User Experience Architect
Self Financial is looking for a Principal User Experience Architect to join the Engineering team. In this position you will provide technical leadership to the Self engineering organization to evolve and modernize our front-end experience platforms in order to support Self’s rapidly expanding business and ensure that Self continues to innovate with class-leading, omni-channel experiences that delight our customers.
You will have demonstrated experience in front-end and presentation-tier software architecture spanning the client and server-side elements supporting multiple experience channels including mobile app, mobile web, and desktop web. You will be willing and able to provide architectural leadership across the full spectrum of customer touch points to ensure consistent, effective, and pleasing customer experiences regardless of channel. You will drive the development of user experience technology strategy & roadmaps and have ability to provide effective leadership across multiple software delivery teams in a fast-paced, agile environment. You will be capable of influencing across the enterprise and partnering with multiple business stakeholders, product, operations, and technology leaders to drive technology vision and execution. You have a deep understanding of user experience platforms, patterns and financial industry trends and will work with teammates across Self to align our efforts with enterprise technology strategy, standards, best practices, security, and regulatory requirements.
You will be an Individual Contributor but have strong leadership through collaboration and influencing across the enterprise. This position reports directly to the Self’s Vice President of Engineering.

What You Will Do
- Provide a clear understanding and vision of the user experience technology landscape and how best to evolve Self’s data platforms to meet current and emerging business needs as our business scales and diversifies, developing a well-documented end-to-end user experience platform target state model with associated roadmap.
- Provide clear expert guidance and leadership to help establish patterns and platforms for re-use in order to allow Self to rapidly develop, expand and modify new user experiences while maintaining consistency, quality, and brand identity across all of Self’s customer-facing channels.
- Collaborate closely with marketing and product partners to develop user experience architectures that allow rapid prototyping, A/B testing, and progressive rollout to support the needs of the business.
- Help ensure that Self’s customer-facing systems are developed in a highly secure and compliant manner.
- Be able to communicate effectively with Self senior leadership and executives in order to drive consensus view on technology initiatives and strategy.
- Have a passion for emerging technologies and be capable of influencing and inspiring the organization in developing innovative solutions that meet business needs.
- Ensure the technical integrity and consistency of the user experience solutions across multiple independent delivery teams, and work with those teams to encourage shared solutions and prevent unnecessary redundancy.
- Mentor, coach and guide engineering staff.
What you Bring
- At least 8 years of software architecture experience with a focus on mobile and/or web experience architecture and platforms.
- A willingness to learn and gain architectural mastery over the full spectrum of customer experience channels, including cross-platform mobile app, mobile web, desktop web, voice/IVR, chat, email, or any additional channels the Self may use to engage customers.
- Broad knowledge of and experience with modern user experience platform technologies to ensure the quality, scalability, performance, maintainability, and security of customer-facing systems.
- Solid fundamentals in the design and architecture of secure customer facing experience platforms, including approaches to customer identity and access management (CIAM) and securing of customer channels against potential attack vectors such as code injection, XSS, and session hijacking.
- Strong track record of technology leadership, architecting actionable solutions, and influencing, with leadership qualities that engineering teams and other stakeholders recognize and respect.
