Product Designer, Mobile Design Systems - Location Flexible
Role Description
The Design systems team at Dropbox sets the standard for interfaces across our product ecosystem. We build and maintain an internal, cross-platform design system and support the product designers who use it in their work. This role will be partnered very closely with Brand and the Mobile team. The mobile team is a steward of the customer experience and foundational quality of all Dropbox mobile apps. The team owns the experiences of the main Dropbox mobile app used by hundreds of millions in addition to collaborating with partner teams around the company contributing to mobile experiences.
This role will be focused on laying the foundation for how our Mobile products interface with our Dropbox Design System. You will be the key driver in refining a language of components, scalable systems, and documented elements that make Mobile products from Dropbox better for our customers. You will leverage the foundational elements in our visual identity system to make decisions based on specific needs for native apps. You will go the extra mile to create clear thinking about how best to approach our system across iOS and Android, mobile and tablet to ensure we make consistent, effortless products across all surfaces. You’ll help us paint a picture of an ecosystem of Mobile products that work seamlessly with one another to provide our users with the right value at the right time.
Responsibilities
- Own the design system roadmap across native mobile apps
- Co-define the vision of design systems across platforms
- Lead the development and delivery of our design systems in our Mobile product offerings
- Drive the evolution of Dropbox’s Interface Guidelines (DIG) on Mobile
- Design and define interaction patterns through components, documentation, and prototypes
- Ensure our Design System meets, and often exceeds, standards and guidelines for accessibility
- Specify and maintain our core principles in visual style, typography, spacing, motion, and interaction models.
- Work with developers to maintain and create new components for our library.
- Partner with Brand designers to ensure the Design System reflects our brand identity, and supports marketing and brand design.
- Collaborate with designers across teams to curate new aesthetic and patterns.
- Collaborate with UX Researchers to test as needed to ensure usability and consistency.
- Ask smart questions and champion new ideas, improvements and innovation
Requirements
- 7+ years of UX-related work experience
- Prior experience designing for Mobile surfaces across iOS/Android. Including knowledge of Apple HIG and Google Material Design.
- Excellent interaction design and visual craft skills including some experience with prototyping mobile experiences.
- Demonstrated skills for collaborating closely with other designers, researchers, product managers and engineers.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects from discovery through shipping/iteration.
- Steadfast empathy for our users, their lives, and what they hope to gain from using Dropbox.
- Clear, compelling presentation and communication style
- Comfortable with travel, potentially quarterly post-COVID.
