What you will do:
You will be a leading change agent in the software engineering organization. As a quality engineering leader, you are responsible for the quality engineering discipline supporting delivery of multiple digital products with quality and speed. You are responsible for driving quality processes in product development with the help of the Software Development Engineers in Test (SDET) assigned to the product pods. You will drive operational excellence within the software engineering team through robust budgeting and contract management. You will hire great talent and manage a team of engineering leaders. Success in your role will ensure successful, high-quality technical delivery and implementation of software products according to project timelines. You are fully accountable for creating a culture of engineering excellence and managing the growth and development of the engineers within the organization.
Responsibilities:

  • QE for Studio
    • Responsible for working with the vendor and associate leads across the Studio pods to validate, update and monitor the QE strategy.
    • Accountable for the overall QE activities for the Studio product teams including the delivery of testing phases, review of the certification of the products for different phases both functional and non-functional testing.
    • Functions as an escalation for SDETs and product quality issues.
    • Collaborates with xRD, Product, Engineering, DevOps, to drive product goals and outcomes.
    • Leads stakeholder engagement & communication of vision, strategy, plans and delivery progress for QE.


  • Quality Engineering Focus
    • Develops and manages a continuous improvement program to improve quality, consistency, and product satisfaction.
    • Creates and champions QE principles of automation and continual improvement to advance product development.
    • Provides expert guidance on test environment strategy, setup, and configuration.
    • Partners with Product teams and SDETs to establish KPIs and Metrics in-line with QE guidelines.
    • Collaborates with vendors to ensure tools required for testing conform to standards and help implement new solutions as required.


  • Quality Engineering Thought Leadership
    • Participates in the development of a Ascension studio wide quality engineering strategy, including frameworks, patterns, delivery approach, standards, best practices and blueprints for delivering digital products.
    • Drives improvements to the quality engineering maturity by improving speed, quality, and value of software products.
    • Ensures the Studio stays current with technical and industry trends in digital engineering- web, mobile, server technologies; applies current methods to lead solutioning or problem solving discussions and knowledge sharing with compelling presentations, demos.


  • Talent Management
    • Ensures proper staffing and resource planning.
    • Mentors and coaches QE team members who work with product team members on Quality Engineering tasks and procedures; manages a strong team of individual contributors and contractors to deliver against tile strategies.
    • Builds and grows the QE team to develop top talent, ensure delivery success.
    • Assists in the evaluation of QE-related vendors and engages resources outside Ascension.


  • Budgeting and Contract Support
    • Stewards tracking of budget against plan and budget refinement.
    • Supports service provider and tools contract reviews.

Requirements
Education:

  • High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.


Work Experience:

  • 5 years of experience required.
  • 10 years of experience preferred.
  • 2 years of leadership or management experience required.
  • 5 years of leadership or management experience preferred.


Additional Preferences
Preferred Experience & Knowledge:

  • 10+ years of overall quality engineering experience with 5+ years of experience in managing teams.
  • Experience in architecting, designing and developing QE programs for scalable, performant and highly available digital applications.
  • Design/leadership experience with Mobile Test tools/frameworks like Espresso, Appium, XCTest for UI and automation.
  • Design/leadership experience with TDD/BDD/DDD using JUnit, Cucumber, Selenium, Gherkin, etc.
  • Experience in tools used in Performance testing tools like - JMeter, LoadRunner, etc.
  • Experience in healthcare standards FHIR, HL7, and regulations like HIPAA, Cures Act, etc.
  • Strong understanding of professional software engineering best practices for full SDLC including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing and operations.
  • Demonstrated mastery of the full SDLC including CI/CD and modern build and deployment tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
