The role:

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager who is a fast learner, a hard worker, has a knack for creative problem-solving and is a low-ego team player. You will join Nacelle’s core development team to develop, build, and maintain new features for our product. You should be comfortable letting your tech leads take true ownership of projects while keeping enough eye on things to make sure the train stays on track.

In this role you will:

  • Advocate for, and execute on our one-on-one, coaching-centric engineering culture.
  • Coaching engineers to be better at what they do by reducing cycle time, blockers, and defect rates.
  • Work closely with Product and Design to roll out new, high impact solutions.
  • Work with the talent acquisition team to hire new software engineers, building teams that are better than the sum of their parts.
  • Be the technical “spirit guide”, leading engineers by example and guiding technical direction.

The impact you will have:

In your first 90 days:

  • Build relationships with your team and their team members.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with key leaders in; Product, Engineering, and Customer Success.
  • Foster a safe and supportive work environment for engineers by:
    • Enabling a fail-fast mindset (fail-learn-improve cycle).
    • Building trust within and across teams.
    • Providing safe channels for feedback.

In your first 6 months:

  • Contribute to the company's technical vision.
  • Collaborate with your peer managers, lead engineers, and Director of Engineering on setting and improving engineering processes, standards, and practices.

In your first year:

  • Lead your team(s) to implement and deliver a large product feature.
  • Hold yourself and your team accountable for;
    • Its commitments.
    • Following and improving processes.

We would love to hear from you if:

  • You have 2+ years as a people manager.
  • You have 5+ years of experience in a software engineering position, contributing code to an active codebase.
  • You have 2+ years of collaborative experience with recruiting where you build high quality diverse and inclusive teams.
  • You have 2+ years working with matrix structured teams and squads.
  • You have 3+ years of engineering experience at a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider.

We’d be really excited if you have:

  • Experience working at a venture backed, fast growing startup.
  • Remote work experience.
  • Proficiency with at least one modern programming language such as Javascript / Typescript (Node), Go, Java.
  • AWS, GCP, Azure or similar cloud infrastructure experience.
  • Experience building web based applications.
