About Us
imaware™️'s mission is to change the world of healthcare and at-home testing. There's never been a more important time to help empower people to take control of and understand their health - all while pushing the boundaries of what 'modern healthcare' should really look like. We're looking for people who will help us think bigger, challenge the status quo, and add to a collaborative mindset of continuous learning. We are obsessed with creating a seamless and simple experience to make sure that our patients are well cared for, no matter where our products meet them in their journey. imaware™️ team members all have a shared passion for answering tough questions in the pursuit of helping our customers, and one another.

Our team has adapted to a hybrid work environment, and work collaboratively both in our Austin office and from home. Despite many of our team members being in different locations and time zones, we're putting in the effort to make sure that our people are connected, cared for, and supported so we can all participate in building a culture that stems from a shared purpose.

About the Role
As imaware™ continues its rapid growth, our leaders become that much more important to our success and our ability to disrupt a healthcare space in desperate need of an overhaul. In particular, our Engineering team is the foundation upon which we look to offer better insights and more services to our patients, so that they can all live longer, happier lives. Reporting to the Principal Lead Engineer, the Lead Backend Software Engineer will be the guiding force to take key initiatives and make them a reality through the successful management, directment, and motivation of a small team of engineers. On top of providing insightful code reviews and meaningful guidance to direct reports, this person will technically contribute to our microservices, architect cutting edge solutions, and help refine our roadmap in order to meet the ever-growing demands of the product and market. Due to the complexity and importance of our backend, we’re looking for someone hands-on enough to contribute to the code and manage the priorities of the team’s initiatives, while also understanding the high-level interactions and dependencies to keep things running smoothly with an eye for scaling and future growth. If you’re excited to flex both your personal leadership skills on top of your engineering prowess, here are a few things we’re excited for you to accomplish at imaware™:

  • Immediately be able to provide help and leadership to a small team of direct reports through code reviews, career guidance/mentorship, and contribute to the whole team’s best practices and ‘knowledge sharing’ sessions
  • Deploy valuable microservices into our backend with an eye for the holistic vision of the stack and it’s various integrations, dependencies, etc.
  • Architect and implement solutions for highly impactful and visible features on our product roadmap within 3-6 months through cross-team collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Advise imaware™ leadership on the growth, composition, and evolution of the backend system, team members, technologies, and design

Minimum Requirements

  • 6-10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, displaying technical excellence in TypeScript and NodeJS, with at least some direct leadership displayed within a team or key project
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical teams, with a passion for mentorship, and growing personally and professionally through constructive feedback from other team members
  • Demonstrable working experience with cloud technologies (GCP, AWS, etc.), microservices and architecture, technical integrations internally and externally, database and data pipelines, and generally well-rounded with a variety of technologies
  • Working knowledge of DevOps technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.) and best practices

Preferred Qualification

  • Preferably Austin-based or open to relocation, but will consider remote on a case-by-case basis
  • Startup experience, and/or a key player on a growing team working on highly visible and important products and domains
  • Experience managing and mentoring a small team of direct reports is highly preferred

Benefits and Perks

  • Partially and fully covered medical benefits
  • Fully covered dental, vision, life, short and long term disability
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Flexible work environment
  • 401K
  • 20 days of PTO
  • $75 continuing education stipend per quarter
  • Free imaware™ tests
  • Virtual and in-person team building activities/social events
