Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility on an every other week or monthly basis.
GM is committed to Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion. The Power Converter Design and System team is dedicated to accelerating GM into an all-electric future. This is a full time position as a Design Engineer for the Electrification Power Converter Design Team. Responsible for converter design definition, electrical design, vehicle integration, WCA, benchmarking, and sustaining engineering in production. Required to interface with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers as well as vehicle customers in order to solve technical solutions per detailed requirements and best practices. Responsible for technical direction of converters (DC/DC, Chargers) for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles.
Role & Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for execution of converter requirements and evaluation of designs where creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment
  • Work cooperatively with and provide technical guidance to Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers of power electronics
  • Develop engineering designs and generate technical solutions for advanced and production hardware
  • Perform WCA analysis to assess design performance and robustness
  • Ensure lessons learned comprehended in converter SOR & BOD
  • Participate in supplier DFMEA reviews to ensure design compliance
  • Provide technical support to GM Design Release Engineer
  • Assist in planning design completion dates and complete designs to planned timing
  • Write and assess technical reports.
  • Create and protect intellectual property
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
  • Perform component benchmarking and vehicle integration of competition
  • Utilize Design for Six Sigma analysis as a decision tool for design trade-off activities and decision making

Additional Description
Required Qualifications:

 

 

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Degree
  • 3+ years of electrical circuit design experience
  • Working knowledge of converter systems design
  • High level of project management skills and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve

Preferred Qualifications:

 

 

  • Masters/PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Degree
  • 8+ years of electrical circuit design experience
  • Working knowledge of Power Electronics (inverter/converter) systems design
  • Background in residential and industrial electrical wiring systems
  • Familiarity and application of National Electric Code and UL standards that apply to distributed energy resources (UL2202, UL2231, UL1741, IEEE1547)
  • Past experience working with UL to define safety requirements and obtaining UL certification
  • Experience engaging in and influencing emerging V2G interface standards (SAE, IEEE)

  • SIMULINK simulation tool
  • SIMPLORER system/circuit simulation tool
  • Orcad schematic capture
  • Cadence
  • P-Spice circuit analysis software
  • Experience with GM engineering processes and software
