The Job At-A-Glance:
As a Security Engineer at Q2, you will be responsible for protecting our clients and Q2 digital banking platform from external threats and vulnerabilities across the world. Our digital banking platform in Q2 reaches over 22M end-users across 1,300 financial institutions and growing. We are looking for a Security Engineer that is focused on building security solutions primarily in a cloud-related environment either in AWS or Azure, but preferably within AWS. We're seeking a Security Engineer that enjoys working on projects from start to finish and someone that enjoys partnering with others to build sound security practices.
A Typical Day:
From a day-to-day standpoint, our Security Engineers work heavily with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies such as Terraform/Cloudformation as well scripting languages such as Python or Powershell to develop automated security practices. Q2 also leverages native Cloud Security toolset such as AWS Guard Duty, Security Hub, and Macie services. A strong candidate would be intimately familiar with these technologies. We're open to new tools technologies and better ways of securing our platform, so bring your ideas!
The Security Engineering team partners heavily with our Security Architects to ensure that the design, build run method is followed. The Security Engineering team is in charge of building, deploying, configuring, and the performance optimization of numerous security tools for the organization. Once the tool is in place, Security Engineering works hand in hand with Security Operations (SOC/SIRT) for the day-to-day operations, visibility, and alerting of such tools.
When on-call, the Engineer is responsible for responding to all Major Incidents in a timely manner and addressing all service disruptions until the incident is deemed resolved.

We’re looking for someone who is a self-starter. Be accountable for the work that you do. We want someone who takes the initiative to not only look for areas of improvement but come up with a plan to address those areas. Having a leader’s mentality is extremely important, but effective leaders are always great team players. There’s always work that needs to be done. Ideally, we are seeking candidates that have experience securing financially related applications and or have been working focused on fraud detection.
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a minimum of 12 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with 8+ years of experience; or equivalent related work experience.
Implemented Security solutions in public clouds (AWS, Azure, and/or Google)
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) -Terraform and Cloud formation
Gitlab/Github
Automation and scripting via PowerShell, Python, Perl, or Bash
The ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
The ability to communicate with all levels of the organization, clearly expressing ideas and concepts both verbally and in writing
Super high attention to detail and exceptional follow-through skills
And above all, a great sense of humor
