Your Responsibilities
The electrification group within John Deere is continuing to look at ways of improving value to our customers. If you have experience in rotating components, bearing systems, or load data analysis the electric machine group would be interesting in you considering our team. The team's work involves a wide range of product within John Deere from traction drives through accessory application. We are looking for the right skill set to help us integrate electric machines into our systems. We also look forward to you bringing a fresh look on how you can help us achieve these goals.
As a Senior Staff Engineer for John Deere , you will d irect and mentor mechanical design of emachines (motors, generators and electromagnetic devices) and drive robust resolution of high priority challenges within ISG projects. In addition, you will:
- Facilitate the interpretation of internal customer needs and vehicle system requirements to translate into component level requirements and specifications
- Lead the implementation of mechanical standards relative to shaft designs, mounting and packaging relative to electric machines as they apply to the product. Acts as an advisor & mentor to other team members on these items
- Develop innovative solutions for the support of scalable modular architecture. Support the integration of electrification components into drivetrain components, improving power density of electrification parts through improved electric machine design and cooling capability
- Work with Supply Management and key electric drive component suppliers to ensure that components meet the product cost, quality, and performance requirements
- Work with internal and external sources to define and execute product verification and validation activities using design analysis, simulation, lab tests, field test, etc., to ensure the design meets the application requirements for safety, performance, quality, reliability and cost

What Skills You Need
- 6 or more years of experience working with rotating components, machine design, test, or implementation
- 6 or more years of experience developing innovative technical concepts and solutions from early concept to field support including working with suppliers to improve their processes to meet Deere component needs
- Technical skills for design and analysis of rotating machines and related components
- Strong visualization ability along with written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to travel up to 25% or more depending on home location
What Makes You Stand Out
- Knowledge of drive components (such as shafts, splines, gearing and housings)
- Experience in the analytical details of rotating machine design (continuous and peak load evaluation, bearing design and selection along with structural requirements)
- Exposure to various emachine types, internal components, insulating materials, and processing methods
- Experience resolving field warranty problems relative to components such as bearings, cooling systems, and insulation systems
- Experience in working across groups with co-workers to share knowledge and work toward common goals
- Demonstrated experience in design for reliability and demonstration by accelerated test methods
- Prior supervisory experience
- Advanced technical degree or equivalent field and work experiences
Education
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
- BS in mechanical, electrical, or a related field of study
- Continuing Education in mechanical engineering and/or engineering management
