As the Development manager of the Event Platform team, you will manage the continual iteration and improvement to make the Event Platform more awesome for Atlassian. You will work closely with product management, architects and design teams to innovate, build a feature roadmap, craft engineering delivery plans, define our measures of success and then drive towards the delivery. You will inherit an existing team of Engineers and collaborate with the Architects on the broader team to reach targets. We are looking for a passionate technical leader who will motivate the team members to excel and grow in their careers.
This role will also include, but is not limited to:
Demonstrating strong ownership for the quality of your services, customer focus and for getting things done.
Playing an integral role in designing micro-services
Being on call for incident management for services and participate in DevOps + TechOps
Driving complex, multi-team projects which impact many partner teams
Mentoring team members, review their work and provide design guidance

Event Platform team was the first team in our Mountain View office and has been very successful at developing key services that make up our cloud platform. Event Platform adds key capabilities like Guaranteed Event Delivery to Atlassian's PaaS, Artifact repository store, Bootstrap and CDC based delivery, the foundation for all of Atlassian products. Robustness, high volume and reliability are core features of our services. Joining the team means you get to work with latest technologies and a highly usable infrastructure platform as part of a tight-knit, dynamic team. You'll be operating your services in production by week two.
The Event Platform team owns the 4th most used service in Atlassian prides on providing a very stable service, has substantial impact on helping our customers succeed, and we're committed to pushing current trends in technology in order to build a distinctive experience across our brand.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:
- 3+ years in engineering management following Agile development processes
- Breaking down problems into executable chunks and coordinating multiple engineers to deliver a solution
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring and retaining talent
- Ability to contribute to the technical and business strategy of the team
- Strong programming experience in Java or similar languages, and foundation in data structures, algorithms and distributed system
- Experience in AWS technologies like Kinesis, SQS, SNS, S3, Kafka (MSK) and more. AWS experience can be substituted with experience in similar public clouds (i.e Azure, GCP)
- BS (or higher) in CS or related field
It's great, but not required if you have:
- Recent hands-on experience in developing and maintaining high volume, robust micro services
- API development and design with REST
