Job Category
Modernize Home Services seeks an experienced and proven manager to lead our backend team. You should be a backend developer veteran with extensive experience building web applications, with experience in API development. You will build and mentor other developers while growing current initiatives, building out new products and maintaining old ones. The ideal candidate will be capable of being both an individual contributor and managing a team of backend developers. You will be responsible for our core backend architecture, establishing best practices and growing our team.
Responsibilities
- Manage 4 - 6 backend developers. (Weekly 1x1’s, performance reviews)
- Lead a cross functional scrum team through sprints, prioritizing & planning work, continually improving the team's productivity, release quality, and job enjoyment
- Translate business requirements into software designs, implementation schedules, and deployment strategies
- Collaborate with direct reports and team members on technical design, work estimation, and feature implementation
- Drive the development of highly functional, available and performant code based on business and technical requirements
- Establish best practices across the team
- Perform code reviews and push the team to improve overall code quality
- Stay up to date on technologies, introducing new ones as needed
- Conduct sprint planning by understanding the effort, risk, and priority of remaining work committed for each release
Experience
- 2+ years of managing direct reports
- 3+ years of full-time experience in backend development
- Solid grasp of best practices for backend development
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and translate complex information to internal teams
- Experience translating business requirements to technical implementations
- Experience with SQL and databases (nice to have)
- Experience with Java (nice to have)
- Experience with PHP (nice to have)
- Experience with Laravel (nice to have)
- Experience with Agile Scrum (nice to have)
- Experience with Python (nice to have)
