About the Role

Come join one of 2019’s Best Places to Work in the heart of downtown Austin where we’re making the lives of retailers simpler by automating the back office. Your role as a System Administrator? You will assist in building and maintaining our development, staging, and production infrastructure. You will work with many teams in a DevOps environment to complete tasks relating to our current projects. Maintain an on-call rota with the team to ensure production systems stay running at all times.

Your Day-to-Day Life:

  • Work in a global team to roll out new features, oversee frequent releases to production and help improve our SaaS infrastructure using kubernetes, terraform and configuration management tools.
  • Work closely with other administrators, engineers, product managers, customers and partners.
  • Assist and own diagnosing infrastructure level issues with production systems
  • Provide on-call assistance to maintain service availability.
  • Monitor and maintain our MySQL and Postgres databases, MongoDB stores, RabbitMQ messaging infrastructure, Hazelcast caching grid, Java services, Go services, PHP(Apache) applications, node.js services and supporting servers across multiple AWS datacenters.
  • Develop expertise in diverse technical and business domains.
  • Have the opportunity to grow into team or technical leadership roles.
  • Help maintain office IT infrastructure.
  • Must be in Austin or willing to relocate and able to work in our downtown office

Working hours

This role is based around standard CST working hours (9am-6pm) but, as with all Systems Administrator roles, some flexibility is required.

  • Five working days per week.
  • You will be part of a paid on-call rota to respond to technical incidents outside of office hours (up to 12am).
  • Once/Twice weekly releases required around 6:00pm

Requirements

About You:

  • Experience as a Linux System Administrator.
  • Experience with high-volume, high availability systems.
  • Understanding of Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with scripting in Bash or equivalent.
  • Understanding of network infrastructure, protocols and components.
  • Experience working alongside development teams (preferably in a DevOps environment).
  • A good communicator.
  • Remain calm when working under pressure.
  • Enjoy variety in your work and be willing to pick up new tools, technologies and techniques.
  • Hold a technical degree or equivalent.
  • Have a low tolerance for un-automated (manual) tasks.

Desirable experience:

  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate level or relevant experience
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of common Linux services (Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, etc)
  • Experience with hosting & supporting Java, Nodejs and PHP apps
  • Exposure to CI/CD infrastructure
