Overview

We're looking for an experienced and transformational leader to lead our Product Counsel team as Vice President, Product Counsel. As the leading technology company focused on disrupting the legal industry through tech enabled legal and compliance solutions that serve small businesses and consumers, our Product Counsel team is core to our mission, products and growth and not only is a major contributor and influencer of our product vision and roadmap, but also a leader influencing the broader legal landscape.

You will

• Expertly advise and provide big-picture thought leadership to internal teams on the strategy, development, integration and expansion of both existing and new product and technology solutions, including guiding and advising current and future product innovations and development.
• Provide practical in-depth analysis on legal issues and risks, complex products, and company policies in a risk-tolerant, but compliance-oriented environment, including the impact on the company's long-term strategy to business, compliance, and legal audiences.
• Proactively solve process and other problems for the business as we plan and execute on an accelerated and aggressive growth plan by anticipating, preparing for, and operationalizing new business goals and product requirements, including new product offerings and changing regulatory controls.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and international laws and regulations, in close collaboration with colleagues in Legal and Compliance teams and s tay up-to-date and keep stakeholders advised on laws, regulations and trends relevant to technology, the legal industry, legal technology, compliance, small business offerings, data governance and privacy, advertising and marketing, and consumer protection.
• Identify issues that may fall outside your expertise, driving resolution by partnering with other members of the LegalZoom legal team or other cross-functional business partners across the organization
• Lead, mentor and develop a best- in-class team of Product Counsel attorneys to successfully support the business growth and expansion of the company.

You have

• A current license in a U.S. state. JD or equivalent with 10+ years of legal experience.
• Substantial experience in technology focused companies. Technical or engineering background would be a plus in this role.
• Experience working with and leading cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, Finance, Compliance, Security, in-house counsel, vendors, and outside counsel.
• Comfort challenging the status quo and preconceived notions of what is possible
• A "yes" approach in working with the business with excellent judgement and business pragmatism.
• Top-notch analytical skills with experience owning projects from concept to finish.
• Proven leadership and culture development experience and understand the business and the product, how it works, and are technically savvy
• Creative thinking abilities are proactive about space and industry, and are not afraid to build from the ground up.
• An ability to communicate and synthesize information and collaborate among multiple stakeholders and disciplines and cultivate relationships across the organization
• Comfort with gray areas and interpreting and applying the law in unsettled contexts in a fast-paced environment with a passion and curiosity for learning and growing your domain and industry knowledge
