We're looking for an Operations Manager to own HR, financial operations, and office management at New Knowledge and Data for Democracy. Reporting to our CEO, you'll be our first ops hire and will have a foundational role in shaping and defending public discourse.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the onboarding process for new hires including clear communication of culture, values, mission, tools, and business processes
  • Manage and adhere to annual and project budgets, maintain and update budgets in comparison with actuals, and be the liaison to the accounting firm
  • Assist in the execution of legal contracts with vendors, customers
  • Collaborate with the Data for Democracy Community Manager and volunteers to plan and execute events, both online and in cities across the US
  • Coordinating recording and guest logistics for Partially Derivative, our Top 50 tech podcast on tech and society
  • Day-to-day running of a busy office: coordinate travel and visitors, maintain stocks of office supplies, oversee decorating and upkeep of the office space generally

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years experience in an HR administration, operations, or business generalist role; experience with financial operations and budgeting is a requirement
  • Proven track record of managing projects
  • You are someone who enjoys working hard to make sure details are taken care of smoothly and in an organized manner
  • You have the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • You thrive in an environment where you own the direction of your work, and feel a strong sense of accountability
  • You execute flawlessly on any task, big or small
  • You have a drive for solving problems, building efficient processes, infrastructure and tools to scale a team
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
