Principal Engineer, Unified Communications

This person will work with internal business functions to identify business and technical requirements for Unified Communications, Telepresence and collaboration technologies. Develop Unified Communication strategies and architectures, implement and support Unified Communications solutions for internal clients based on industry best practices. The person will continue to develop UC designs based on best of breed technologies while developing and maintaining relationships with internal clients and teams to understand the corresponding business challenges.
This person will maintain operational effectiveness of the environment and will be looked at to perform network readiness and current state telephony assessments, provide knowledge transfer and detailed design/operational documentation to supporting teams, provide training, mentorship role to peers, team members engaged in day to day monitoring, and provide quality assurance documentation review and peer review on projects.

Key Activities:
Communication
Provide excellent portfolio management of the Collaboration and UC technology stack and provide necessary status, resource, and project roadmap and priority discussions with various levels of the business.
Gather complex customer requirements and make recommendations for adjustments to these when necessary.
Gain project buy-in of all stakeholders through strong communication to enable business change and realization of benefits.
Be able to extract needed information from business stakeholders to provide innovative, cost effective solutions that power the organization and accelerate our ability to provide effective collaboration and support to our internal and external customers.
Technical Knowledge
Maintain documentation on current and future technology trends and roadmaps around collaboration technologies in order to provide solutions that will address both short and long term business needs and strategy.
Maintain and cultivate industry contacts and trends to shape technology decisions including on premise, cloud and hosted services. Keep abreast of competitors to sense shifts in technology trends and possible outside opportunities.
Provide implementation guidance to third party resources and be the hands-on resource for internal efforts as needed.
Stay current with necessary certifications and job skills relevant to Unified Communications technologies.
Operational Excellence
Interact with operations team to create playbooks and transition day to day front line support of the UC and Collaboration environments.
Provide monitoring and troubleshooting guidance, knowledge transfer, and documentation to enable round the clock coverage of our Collaboration and UC systems.
Maintain BC / DR program for collaboration tools, perform posture analysis and testing, and report on findings and recommendations for adjustments to reduce risk.
Compile uptime and cost metrics to drive stability and cost improvements
Maintain asset inventories and run age reports on a periodic basis to ensure stability.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information sciences, or related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of four (4) years of related IP Unified Communications/Network administration and support experience, preferably Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Contact Center Enterprise.
Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in network environments, including network engineering, security, design, planning, and implementation of LANs and WANs
Experience in hosted UC (UCaaS) and cloud collaboration technologies such as Telepresence, Webex, and Microsoft Office 365/Teams is preferred.
Active Cisco Voice, Video, and Route Switch certifications or equivalent experience is preferred.
