Hyliion is seeking a Supplier Development Manager for its Purchasing group. This role will be based in Cedar Park, Texas.  This person will support, develop, and drive Hyliion supplier development processes and initiatives. He/she will be responsible for providing operational execution for the Supply Chain group as it relates to Supplier development.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience within a highly complex manufacturing company preferably in an automotive, commercial vehicle, or another transportation industry with a specific experience in electrical components. This Person will have deep expertise in developing and implementing robust supplier development programs within a manufacturing environment. He/she will bring exceptional leadership skills with a proven ability to drive multi-functional change initiatives and will have a track record of driving for and achieving results, as well as building overall organizational capability. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, exceptional business and financial acumen with the ability to quickly discern the issues that are critical and vital for the business.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead development and implementation of supplier development strategies that encompass supplier selection, evaluation, qualification, and development for direct material purchases.
  • Support strategy execution by working with commodity managers, and other cross-functional team members across various commodities that include mechanical, electromechanical, power electronics, and battery systems.
  • Ensure adherence of Hyliion supplier quality systems and IATF 16949 requirements across supplier base.
  • Lead project management process focusing on flawless launch, APQP, PPAP, and first-time-right quality on new product launches.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance metrics with supplier scorecards and drive performance improvements with actions and recovery plans on identified gaps.
  • Drive continual improvements with the deployment of various tools/methods such as 8D analysis, lean management, DOE, and Six Sigma methodology.
  • Builds functional excellence and organizational capability by developing commodity/process expertise, through development planning that supports the regional business needs.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with SCM, Program team, Engineering, operations, and quality to ensure supplier sourcing, launch, and ongoing performance to meet defined targets and overall business needs.
  • Conducts annual reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of supplier development policies, procedures, practices and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Travels to supplier locations (Domestic and International) as necessary for Program reviews, Problem-solving, and manage business relationships.
  • Responsible for building regional process expertise in key commodities/processes such as mechanical/electromechanical/power electronics and battery systems.
  • Able to develop and coach across the organization to ensure effective operation and function.  
  • Determines regional staffing needs and manages direct reports day-to-day activities to ensure that work being done is aligned to business priority.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering, Business, SCM, Quality or Operations Management from an accredited institution.
  • 7+ years prior manufacturing/operations experience in ME, Quality, Supplier development, or Purchasing/sourcing
  • 3+ years working in automotive/commercial vehicle/transportation/electronics industry.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing people.
  • Willing to travel 50% of the time.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to influence at senior management level both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Technologies; Basic or Advanced knowledge of Production control methods.
  • Strong Results-oriented with the capability to execute and follow-through; Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment with conflicting/changing priorities.
  • Significant experience in global sourcing, supplier development.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds

  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
