Along with managing capital for its investment partners, Amherst manages its own substantial balance sheet that it invests across a range of core business activities and new initiatives. The Vice President of Strategic Capital Allocation will report to the Head of Private Equity and play a central role in delivering on the firm’s growth goals by running broad analytics and modeling scenarios to help inform optimal asset allocation of the firm’s debt and equity capital.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead intensive modeling and scenario analysis to inform capital planning for $3.0Bn U.S. residential merchant development in 2021

  • Assess relative value and risk-adjusted returns across multiple approaches to U.S. single-family residential development, including land acquisition, direct development, strategic development partnerships, and redevelopment of existing housing stock

  • Develop financial models and analytics to inform data-driven capital allocation recommendations considering factors such as macroeconomic conditions, capital markets/financing terms, supply/demand dynamics, capital availability, and enterprise value objectives

  • Work closely with the Acquisitions Team to understand market conditions across various sourcing channels ( i.e. MLS, foreclosure auction, vertical construction, land) and to understand project-specific risk factors, return drivers, underwriting, and future pipeline

  • Work closely with the Head of Private Equity on capital strategy, taking a holistic view of the impact on

  • investment decisions to the platform’s financial position and enterprise value of the firm

  • Present analysis and conclusions to the Investment Committee, which includes the Chairman / CEO and

  • President of Amherst Residential

  • Produce high impact materials, drawing insights from analytics to tell a compelling story

  • Play an active role in discussions around how the firm utilizes and expands its nationwide portfolio footprint to achieve its growth objectives and drive superior risk-adjusted returns

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years’ experience in private equity, investment management firm, or hedge fund

  • Specific experience in roles requiring complex modeling and analysis of risk-adjusted returns on a relative basis to allocate debt and equity capital

  • Experience with the residential or commercial real estate sector a plus

  • Exceptional modeling, analytical, writing, and communication skills with excellent attention to detail

  • Highly process-oriented; executes efficiently and effectively

  • Results-focused, collaborative, thrives in a team-based, high energy environment
