About Care.com

Care.com is a consumer tech company with heart. We’re on a mission to solve a human challenge we all face: finding great care for the ones we love. We’re moms and dads and pet parents. We have parents and grandparents so we understand that everyone, at some point in their lives, could use a helping hand. Our culture and our products reflect that.

Here, entrepreneurs, self-starters, team players, and big thinkers unite behind a common cause. Here, we’re applying data analytics, AI, and the latest technologies to solve universal problems and connect people in new ways. If you like having autonomy, if you thrive on collaboration and building new things, and if you’re all about using your talent for good, Care.com is the place for you.

What Your Days Will be Like:

The ideal Senior Product Manager should be data-driven, detail-oriented, and act with a sense of curiosity and urgency. He or she can intuitively understand customer needs and successfully motivate teams to solve customer problems. He or she should be flexible and able to jump from creating a product vision to immersing themselves with implementation details. Lastly, the Product Manager should be collaborative, facilitating cross-functional alignment and decision making.

  • Talk to customers and other "voice of the customer" stakeholders to understand needs and identify pain points
  • Meet with tech lead and engineering team members to track development status and address any issues
  • Meet with Program Manager to sync projects with larger, organization-wide goals and timelines
  • Write, review and update product requirements and related documentation
  • Meet with the product designer to review upcoming projects and review works in progress
  • Provide assistance and guidance to your direct report, who will be a more junior PM
  • Review and analyze the latest KPIs for active products under your purview
  • Define near- and mid-term roadmap product roadmap

What You'll Be Working On:

In this role, you will be a Senior Product Manager for our Supply and Operations team — the products and systems that enable our relationships with all care providers in the Care.com ecosystem. These providers include individual caregivers (child care and senior care), daycare centers, senior assisted living centers, preschools, housekeeping services, tutors, and more.

Supply & Operations is a relatively new organization within Care.com that is both well-resourced and a high priority for the company as a whole. We are launching new, revenue-generating products, as well as maintaining and/or transitioning from legacy products. You’ll have a lot of responsibility and be expected to move quickly. We know this can be cliché, but it truly is an entrepreneurial/start-up environment on a growing team within a larger company.

The products you will primarily be working on have limited, user-facing components. The main focus is on the backend systems needed to enable new, delightful, and more efficient matching and fulfillment experiences for families seeking care providers. You will partner closely with other teams developing the front end user experience that depends on your products, but you should be excited about focusing on the backend systems.

You will have or immediately be hiring for a more junior product manager to report to you.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Minimum 8 years of work experience with at least 5 of those years in product management. That should include significant time either collaborating closely with technical teams or working as an engineer.
  • Ownership of metrics. This means developing and executing on a roadmap and defining and measuring success based on data.
  • Guiding an agile, cross-functional team during the full lifecycle of development.
  • Working with stakeholders to understand product requirements and ensure successful product launches.
  • Closely collaborating with Program Management and the Application Architect and Director of Engineering for Supply & Operations, more broadly, to help ensure we are efficiently building and deploying services to support all provider-related experiences at Care.com.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and highly detail-oriented, without the need for a lot of direct supervision.
  • The engineering teams you have worked with used modern development tools and frameworks, e.g., REST, GraphQL, Amazon Lamdas, Kafka even streams, and microservices, to deliver cross-platform solutions to multiple user-facing endpoints.
  • Experience working for a tech company, preferably a marketplace, one that facilitates online-to-offline activity, or another business where supply/demand dynamics are critical.
  • Experience developing product requirements and user interfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, solve complex problems, and produce high-quality results.
  • Experience discovering and solving customer problems while keeping the broader business perspective in mind.
  • Interest in and ability to develop and guide a more junior product manager who is in your charge.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment.
