Director, Business Development
Vista Equity Partners is looking for a Business Development Director to lead our growing outbound proprietary sourcing strategy. This experienced executive will manage a growing team of sourcing professionals utilizing a systematic, process-driven approach that leverages data and metrics to inform opportunities. Working closely with the investment, marketing and research teams, the Business Development Director must be a strong individual contributor in building pipeline, effectively identify and nurture intermediary and influencer relationships, and lead the responsibilities of mentoring, training and managing the supporting Business Development staff while establishing a scalable operational infrastructure of results generation.
This role is for an immediate start and is located in Austin, TX.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish, develop, manage, and successfully transition a sourcing pipeline into live deals:
- Partner with investment professionals to identify companies of interest
- Maintain coverage of hundreds of companies, broken down by geography and verticals
- Create thematic driven investment theses to identify and vet new potential investments within enterprise software
- Map organizations to identify key influencers and decision makers
- Build relationship networks to gain access to decision makers and key industry contacts
- Leverage research to prepare for meetings to thoughtfully engage with senior executives and business owners to set up meetings for senior investment professionals
- Identify marketing opportunities and demand generation tactics to attract new companies and build engagement with existing targets
- Directly manage Business Development staff, including both the commercial and operational roles that support a team-based strategy
- Mentor, train and develop Business Development staff through coaching, formal training and creation of opportunities to enhance their professional development
- Maintain and evolve team infrastructure and design points to evolve strategy in line with growth of existing and establishment of new investment vehicles
- Partner with Vice President of Marketing on integrated market development strategy to raise awareness, identify and engage prospective companies of interest
- Manage executive relationships with investment fund leadership to set goals, manage pipeline, report on progress and prioritize opportunities against fund capital deployment objectives
QUALIFICATIONS
- BS/BA required; prefer related field such as finance or business or similar field with preference for an MBA
- 8-10 years of relevant and progressive professional experience such as software sales, PE / VC , consulting, or investment banking including commercially facing and/or direct sales experience
- People and team management experience with proven track record of identifying top talent, developing team members and thoughtfully scaling an organization
- Demonstrated track record of success and accountability with a competitive approach and a fervent desire to achieve goals
- Proven self-starter with an unwavering sense of urgency and the ability to deal with ambiguity in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
- Motivated to use data and a programmatic approach to continuously improve processes and results; Salesforce or other CRM proficiency required
- Ideal candidates will have experience working with valuation and operational finance modeling as well as experience and familiarity with the software industry and leading businesses
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external audiences
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments while paying vigilant attention to details
- Ability to travel up to 50% to participate in events, sales calls, or attend regional or national meetings as necessary
