We've profiled a lot of up-and-coming neighborhoods in this series, but it should come as no surprise that historic SoCo lands on the short list of most-desirable neighborhoods in the city. The foodie mecca is also home to many great Austin startups who found office space close to the action. 

"South Congress has recently become one of the most highly desired areas of town for real estate investment," said Justin Bayne, co-founder of

. "This is largely due to the near NY city level of foot traffic that crowds the streets on a daily basis. Some of the best restaurants and iconic stores, hotels and hangouts line the street. Transportation: Just over the river from Downtown Austin, South Congress is an elongated neighborhood that is defined by Highway 35 on the east side, 290 on the south and 1st Street to the West. There are technically no train stops in the neighborhood but the bus runs directly down South Congress Ave and can take you as far north as Tech Ridge.
