RigUp became Austin’s latest unicorn with a $300 million funding round and $1.9 billion valuation. RigUp is an online marketplace that connects energy companies with skilled field workers. It recently expanded its operations into renewable energy. The Series D round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, a Silicon Valley venture firm with a portfolio that includes Facebook, Lyft and Pinterest.  [Built In Austin]

AI startup SparkCognition brought in $100 million. SparkCognition makes AI-driven applications for the oil and gas, utilities, defense, aviation and financial services industries. Its latest funding round makes it one of the most valuable AI companies in the nation, the company, which is reportedly worth more than $725 million, said in a statement. [Built In Austin]

Tenfold secured $7.5 million to make customer service phone calls less nightmarish for everyone. TenFold’s tech connects customers’ phones with service representatives’ computer systems, so callers’ information pops up right away. That way, customers spend less time explaining themselves and service reps can start helping faster. The round was led by Next Coast Ventures with participation from Andreessen Horowitz (remember them?) and Salesforce Ventures. [Built In Austin]

With a fresh $3 million, Place Technology is closer to launching. The company’s Salesforce-native app PlaceCPM helps growing companies make more accurate financial and cash forecasts, its CEO said in a statement. [Built In Austin]

Thanks to Uber Pets, your dog is no longer a persona non grata. The new feature will allow riders to alert drivers if a pet is coming along. The idea is to prevent last-second cancellations from drivers who’d rather avoid furry customers. Riders will pay a $3 to $5 surcharge, of which drivers will keep a “significant” portion, according to Uber. The feature launches in Austin on October 16. [The Verge]
