BAE Systems unveiled a new $150 million engineering and production facility in Parmer Austin, a business park, this week with the goal of doubling its workforce of 700 employees over the next several years.

Previously, BAE Systems was located across multiple buildings spanning 539,000 square feet. This new 390,000-square-foot facility at 825 E. Howard Lane brings all employees under one roof in a more modern and collaborative space, according to company spokesperson Shelley Walcott.

The new Austin facility will be used by BAE Systems’ electronic systems sector, which researches, develops and produces electronic systems for commercial, defense and space applications.

The Austin facility will be home to a wide range of programs, including the development of autonomous, sensor and cyber technologies. The facility will also be used to develop radio frequency and electro-optical/infrared countermeasure (EO/IR) systems, along with aircraft electrification technology.

Half of the 390,000-square-foot facility will be dedicated to manufacturing, while the additional space will be used for engineering design, lab work and office space.

The company said the new facility has “a streamlined design that is easily reconfigurable to match evolving technologies,” and that there is extra space to take on new projects in the future.

The facility is located near startup incubator Capital Factory, where BAE Systems participates on the Innovation Council to accelerate the development of new defense technology.

“We are growing our business, our talent and our brand in Central Texas,” Dave Harrold, BAE Systems’ vice president and general manager of countermeasure and electromagnetic attack solutions, said in a statement.
