Agile Coach
Job Description:
Summary:
Pluralsight's Skills Product and Technology organizations are undergoing significant cross-functional PMLC and SDLC changes, transitioning from Kanban-centered practices to Scrum without dedicated POs and Scrum Masters. As part of this ongoing transformation, we are seeking an Agile Coach to embed with two to three teams at a time and help them improve their ways of working. In this role, you will assist teams in adhering to org-wide standards, fine tuning processes to suit their needs, and ultimately reducing the amount of time spent on planning and more time doing what our Product Teams love: building and delivering.
As an Agile Coach, you will be a critical voice in how our practices and standards evolve and be an advocate of teams' needs throughout everything you do. Our teams have experienced considerable change across product ownership, reporting structures, and ways of working, necessitating support to navigate these transitions effectively.
You will report into the Office of the CTO (OCTO), joining a team of three Agile Coaches (two US-based and one India-based). You will work alongside an Engineering Practices Principal and the VP of the Office of the CTO to serve over 50 cross-functional teams spanning three continents.
Who you're committed to being:
- A strong communicator who has a passion for helping teams improve their ways of working and refining processes.
- You enjoy learning from others and are open to adapting ways of doing things.
- You are not afraid to experiment, make mistakes and learn from them, ask questions, and voice your concerns.
- When communicating you are self-aware, insightful, and proactive.
- You believe in continuous improvement and request frequent feedback from others.
What you'll do:
- Work closely with two to three cross-functional teams at a time, representing the OCTO and guiding adherence to the defined SDLC and PMLC.
- Facilitate powerful team retrospectives to help teams align with organizational standards and tailor practices to their unique requirements.
- Design and implement assessments and health checks to prioritize coaching efforts effectively; determine coaching rotations to reach all teams over time.
- Enhance the capabilities of Engineering Managers and Product Managers by providing in-the-moment guidance, exemplifying cross-functional collaboration at all times.
- Collaborate with OCTO peers to address teams' needs and refine standards as necessary.
- Create and maintain concise and comprehensible documentation.
- Deliver group training sessions as required.
Experience you'll bring:
- Strong understanding of Lean Software Development, Scrum, the Agile Manifesto, and the intersection of them all.
- Experience practicing and advocating Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Professional Scrum Certification(s) with experience applying the skills
- Consistent positive demeanor that fosters a can-do attitude among team members
- Proactive approach to work, taking initiative to address gaps without waiting for explicit direction.
- Excellent communication skills, consistently sharing your priorities and recommendations for improvement.
- Proven ability to master difficult conversations, turning high stakes conversations into collaborative problem-solving sessions.
- Experience designing and implementing virtual training sessions.
Requirements:
- Three years experience as a Scrum Master or in a similar capacity
- Previous experience working as a Software Engineer and/or Product Manager in organizations with 100-500 Engineers
- Strong understanding of what makes an effective Scrum Master and Product Owner, and a history of coaching folks in these roles
- Customer-centric mindset and ability to connect daily work to business outcomes.
- Strong mentoring ability, especially with individuals in different functional areas
- Ability to create succinct and actionable written documentation.
Education and experience requirements
- 5 years of related or equivalent experience; or 3+ years with an advanced degree
Why you'll love working here:
- We're remote- and hybrid-friendly
- We're mission driven and values guided
- We have a strong commitment to diversity and belonging
- We cultivate a culture of trust, autonomy, and collaboration
- We're lifelong learners and champion team member growth and advancement
- We've got you covered - team member benefits include competitive compensation packages, medical coverage, unlimited PTO and Summer Fridays, wellness reimbursements, Pluralsight subscription, professional development funds and more.
