Vrbo is seeking a senior-level copywriter with management experience to help us deliver engaging content for video and channel marketing. The Copy Manager role will sit on the Creative Dept., our internal creative agency, reporting to the Associate Creative Director of Copy and Fun Times.

The ideal candidate for this role is both a doer and a leader.

You’ll serve as the lead writer on our video team, developing concepts, scripts and other content for a wide range of video needs, including social, YouTube and broadcast. You’ll work with other writers, art directors, editors and motion designers to bring ideas to life in a way that makes people say, “My, that Susan sure can develop concepts and scripts” or, “Holy hell, Trevor helps bring ideas to life like nobody’s business.”

You’ll also directly manage a team of 3–4 writers who work on content for channels such as social media and email. You’ll inspire them to push their work, help build both their creative confidence and soft skills, assist them in solving problems, and also approve expenses and other fun manager-y stuff.

An online portfolio with samples of video work is required to apply. For real. No scrubs.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities

  • Serve as our day-to-day lead video writer, concepting, writing and collaborating to produce a wide range of extra-dope vids

  • Manage a team of 3–4 writers in our Austin office

  • Concept and write for integrated campaigns and other projects as the need arises

  • Act as a creative leader on the team, providing mentorship, creative guidance and editing to other writers

  • Help evolve our brand, ensuring that it feels interesting and authentic, and that we maintain a consistent voice in everything we produce

Who You Are

Skills and experience

  • A degree in Advertising, English, Journalism, or a related field (and/or a degree from the school of hard knocks)

  • At least 8 years of experience as a copywriter for tourism, lifestyle or consumer brands within an agency or in-house creative team

  • Some experience managing copywriters is required

  • Deep video experience tops to botts, from concept to completion

  • Experience writing copy for integrated campaigns

  • Experience leading conceptual brainstorms and developing ideas for pitches

  • A background in building/working against editorial calendars is a real plus

  • A master/mistress of voice and tone

  • Motivated, highly organized, flexible and detail oriented

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Critical success factors

  • A conceptual mind: you’re constantly scheming up big ideas and probably carry around a Moleskin everywhere like a real nerd

  • A passion for video, social media, branding, brainstorming and collaboration

  • A calm demeanor and positive attitude that inspire those around you

  • Strong organizational abilities: While you’re a true creative, you also know it takes process and planning to produce outstanding work at scale

  • Deadline-driven: You take pride in consistently delivering great work that’s on target, on brand and on time
