About the role:

Blackbaud seeks a Systems Engineer to join a passionate team of engineers responsible for effective operations support and for engineering innovative infrastructure and backup solutions with increasing reliability, scalability and security. You will play an instrumental role in our journey to a public cloud model while also sustaining a high level of quality in our current co-located data centers, responsible for both cloud-based and physical infrastructure and application solutions.

As a Systems Engineer focused on Data Protection, you’ll be responsible for administering and supporting enterprise backups, ensuring stability, optimum performance and growth of the enterprise backup system. You’ll use your advanced technology and automation skills to meet the demands of rapidly evolving backup technologies, while pursuing opportunities to advance our operational effectiveness and increase customer satisfaction.

What you’ll be doing

  • Primarily responsible for troubleshooting and resolving all backup issues and restore operations including management and monitoring of backups, recovery and restore policies and procedures.
  • Utilize knowledge of industry standards and best practices to ensure enterprise backups system is secure, reliable and efficient.
  • Responsible for evaluating and scheduling system patches, upgrades, and changes to the backup system software and hardware.
  • Monitor the replication of all data in the hybrid cloud backup solution and effectively manage the retention of the data to meet contractual obligations
  • Ensure enterprise scalability and performance by proactively monitoring capacity and performance of the backups system to support business growth and demand
  • Provide reports as necessary to support audits and keep stakeholders informed on the overall health of the backups.
  • Maintain documentation of configuration, operation and troubleshooting procedures, and service records for data storage and backup hardware and software
  • Discover opportunities for toil automation by identifying manual, repetitive, tactical operational workloads and develop automation scripts, tools, and/or frameworks to optimize and standardize
  • Keep up with industry trends and effectively adapt to demands to rapidly evolving technologies.

What we’ll want you to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent related work experience required
  • 5+ years in administering and supporting enterprise virtualization and storage solutions; Cisco UCS, VMware, EMC storage arrays and data protection solutions prefered
  • Practical experience supporting Dell EMC Isilon, Data Domain, Networker, DD Boost, Cloud Boost, Rubrik preferred
  • Practical experience with ITIL or ISO27001 required; lean and agile methodologies experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience authoring and automating tasks using scripting technologies required (i.e PowerShell, Python, Ansible)
  • Established understanding of complex systems and comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines; storage, compute and network
  • Experience supporting cloud technologies and an understanding of SAAS, PAAS, and IAAS models preferred (Microsoft Azure preferred)
  • Available on a 24x7x365 basis when needed for production impacting incidents or key customer events.
