Commercial Finance Intern

The Opportunity:

HomeAway is seeking a finance intern, to support our global retail organization and work with our commercial finance team. This team is a part of the global Financial Planning & Analysis organization. This role reports to the Director of Commercial Finance based in Austin. Commercial Finance provides a common language and data driven hypotheses, which can be validated through a test and learn approach to enable extraordinary analytical insights, influencing faster and better business decisions.

Experience:

• Ability to understand and connect business concepts directly to their financial impacts
• Experience working in Excel to produce models and summarized data
• Working with your team with the aptitude to understand and demonstrate business drivers
• Ability to operate independently with sound judgement
• Strong communication skills with experience presenting to and working with team members

You are comfortable with working in a bold organization where processes are not always well-defined due to the fast-paced business environment which requires agility. Despite the pace, this person needs to support process, automation, scale and predictability in the solutions they drive. You will know how to analyze data to uncover trends and report on progress against deliverables. You are someone with an appetite for professional growth, development and real-time feedback. Supporting multiple priorities and stake holders is a requirement. This person is effective working cross functionally, improving productivity and efficiency by connecting the dots across the functions of the team and business.

Responsibilities:

• Work with the FP&A team and build relationships with colleagues and engage in local operating models, processes and procedures; identify, analyze and communicate current global trends and their impact on forward-looking financial forecasts
• Drive efficiencies in the Commercial Finance organization by identifying process deficiencies, offering viable and scalable solutions and driving cross-departmental collaboration to implement those solutions
• Build and support models, metrics reporting and business scorecards in support of close and forecast activities; performing variance analysis of business results

Required Qualifications:

• Experience in financial analysis
• Strong verbal and written communication and time management skills for achieving multiple priorities on time with accuracy
• Strong drive for results including initiative necessary to anticipate, recognize and take on challenges and issues as they arise
• Experience analyzing large volumes of data with an ability to synthesize it into trends
• Experience combining Excel and modeling skills to craft flexible modeling tools that drive forecasts and quality analytics
