Legal Counsel
BigCommerce, named a "Best Place to Work" in Austin in 2017 is looking for a Legal Counsel to help support the company’s growth and profitability, while simultaneously balancing the company’s legal & compliance obligations. As the second attorney on the legal team, this is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative, high energy attorney in its Austin, Texas headquarters. This role will interact with senior leadership and report to the General Counsel.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as a trusted advisor to all company departments by providing counsel on a wide range of legal and corporate compliance matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial and corporate agreements, including inbound and outbound SaaS and related agreements, support services, and nondisclosure agreements
- Advise on legal issues and risks raised by our product offering and business strategies
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of and familiarity with the company’s business operations, product, market, customers and competitors
- Drive compliance in day-to-day activities, including providing training and counseling on compliance matters
- Establish rapport and working relationships at all levels to encourage and continue the proactive use of in-house legal counsel
Who You Are
- J.D. degree and membership in good standing in at least one state bar
- 5+ years’ experience with a top regional or national law firm or experience working in a fast-paced, in-house legal environment (strategic transactional and corporate experience is a plus)
- Experienced with data privacy and security in e-commerce preferred
- Experienced in SaaS licensing negotiations and knowledgeable in commercial and contract law
- Honest - with excellent legal judgment, business acumen, and ability to apply legal principles practically in a business environment
- Calm under fire and a hard worker - able to work independently and prioritize multiple, sometimes competing deliverables while managing expectations meeting deadlines
- Exceptional writer with strong communication skills and an ability to explain legal concepts
