Fathom5 is an Austin, Texas based defense technology company building Brilliant Machines™.
Our Company was launched in 2018 and has achieved uninterrupted growth for six consecutive years. Driving this growth is a talented and hard-working team that designs, builds, and implements ERM v4, the United States Navy’s program of record for condition-based maintenance. We are hiring for an experienced, detail-oriented Platform Engineer to support this team.
This job is right for you if you love a dynamic environment, dealing with complex technical challenges, getting the details right, and solving hard problems. The key to your success in this role is a desire to be around people, in the office. We support focus days, out of the office, on a case-by-case basis, but this is an in-office position because this is an cloud-native platform that is run on-premises at the tactical edge.
This new team member will focus on optimizing our DevSecOps pipelines and automating our test, build, and release processes. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of software engineering principles, including the ability to identify and implement relevant software design patterns and contribute to the overall operational readiness of the platform. This candidate will also have a strong desire to mentor junior engineers and elevate the organization through their leadership by establishing strong working relationships across functional teams and organizational boundaries.
Primary Responsibilities:
Software Development Life Cycle: Enhance collaboration and efficiency within development projects by leveraging agile methodologies.
CI/CD Pipeline Management: Design, implement, and manage DevSecOps pipelines to maintain and increase the velocity of our implementation efforts.
Infrastructure Automation: Automate infrastructure provisioning and management using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
System Performance Monitoring: Ensure high availability and reliability of our services by monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues.
Application Optimization: Collaborate with development teams to enhance application performance and scalability.
Security & Compliance: Ensure security best practices are followed and assist in maintaining compliance with NIST, CIS, OWASP, and other relevant security standards and guidelines.
Documentation: Document processes, system changes, and releases to ensure our team and and our customers are on the same sheet of music.
Code Reviews: Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
Internal Tools Creation: Support the creation of internal tools to enhance productivity and collaboration across teams.
Emerging Technologies: Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve our infrastructure.
Incident Response: Assist in incident response and root-cause analysis to identify opportunities to increase the resiliency and reliability of our platform.
The Fathom5 Platform Engineer position also requires:

This individual will be pivotal in advancing our platform and supporting the broader Fathom5 engineering team.
Qualifications:
BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university preferred. Equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree is also acceptable.
10 years experience in platform engineering or software development, with a proven track record of managing and optimizing complex infrastructures.
Extensive experience with containerization, DevSecOps tools, and cloud platforms.
Strong background in using infrastructure as code automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar technologies.
Experience with U.S. government security protocols is preferred.
Proven leadership, with experience mentoring junior engineers and fostering a collaborative team environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to swiftly adapt new technologies and methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
Experience with system monitoring and performance tuning to ensure high availability and reliability.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
