Metasploit Community Manager
Position Summary
The Metasploit community (the Rapid7 team, contributors, users) sits at the nexus of theoretical possibility and practical application. It’s an exploitation research vehicle, an idea generator, an innovation incubator, and a content powerhouse. The value of Metasploit Framework, quite simply, is the community.
The community empowers and arms defenders to always stay one step (or two) ahead of the game. We’re looking for an awesome Metasploit community manager to help us grow engagement, develop, test and scale community success metrics, and is passionate about driving high-impact projects that help the security world move forward faster. The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable about the security community and the people who work to make it better, to spark connections and collaborations and continue bringing to Rapid7 the attacker mindset.
Job Responsibilities
- Support and grow the Metasploit community: our community encompasses both the Metasploit team and the external contributors, advocates, and users whose investment increases the value of our work. Act as the voice of the team; conduct outreach to increase contributor engagement, get fresh people involved, and create new vehicles for communicating the bleeding edge research our team produces.
- Develop, test and scale metrics for community health and success: What does a healthy community look like? What is needed to scale this model as the company grows? How do we make community contribution a tangible asset that can be quantified? Replicate this success model on other Rapid7 communities.
- Manage high-impact projects (CTFs, hackathons, security conferences, education programs) that demonstrate our commitment to our open source and offensive security audiences; represent Metasploit and Rapid7 at community events.
- Identify opportunities for collaborative work with internal/external stakeholders and the most effective forums for sharing that output; monitor and manage public touch space.
- Partner with internal stakeholders; consistently ensure that cross-functional teams have the Metasploit content and expertise they need to most effectively demonstrate Rapid7 leadership in offensive security.
- Understand the product direction and harness the power of the Metasploit community to enable it.
- Partner with response teams during high profile events (major vulns, attacks with wide media coverage) to ensure Metasploit’s expertise is leveraged, showcased, and communicated to customers and the community in alignment with our communications team.
Position requirements
- Knowledge of Metasploit and the security community; at least 5 years of experience in the information security industry.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to communicate value across diverse teams in the language they understand (Engineering, Marketing, Product).
- Proven project management experience.
- Understanding of Rapid7 products.
