Frequently Asked Questions

Workload Sustainability

Flatiron Health treats work-life balance as part of its broader employee experience, connecting well-being and sustainable performance to its mission in cancer care. The company describes this approach as “true work-life integration,” with employees supported in doing meaningful work while managing the realities of life outside work.

  • Hybrid work that protects focus and flexibility: Flatiron’s hybrid approach gives employees room to plan work around both collaboration and personal responsibilities. A director of research sciences said, “Flatiron provides flexibility for employees to set their own schedules,” explaining that this helped them start earlier, protect school pickup time and stay fully engaged in their career. That kind of flexibility supports work-life balance by making schedule control part of how employees sustain performance, not an exception to normal work.
  • Office time used with intention: Flatiron frames the office as a place for connection, collaboration and focused work rather than constant presence. A manager of account management said, “Since I can be intentional on when to collaborate in-person, I feel motivated when I come into our NYC office.” The Durham Life Sciences Office reflects that approach through quiet areas for focused work, collaborative rooms and monthly Connection Days, helping employees balance independent work with the relationship-building that supports sustainable teamwork.
  • Well-being and family support: Flatiron supports sustainable work through benefits that address health, caregiving and rest. The company provides mental well-being tools and healthcare coverage, while also offering resources for employees navigating parenthood, dependent care and family-building needs. These programs reinforce Flatiron’s stated goal of helping teammates feel equipped and empowered to contribute with confidence, compassion and clarity.
  • External signals:
    • How balance is rated: Employees surveyed on external review sites rate Flatiron Health 4.5 for work-life balance, and review themes frequently mention remote flexibility, supportive management, helpful communication and a strong sense of purpose. External feedback also points to flexibility and belonging as strong workplace dimensions. (Indeed)
    • What makes flexibility feel workable: External reviews describe Flatiron as a flexible, mission-driven workplace with smart and kind colleagues, supportive teams and a collaborative scientific culture. Employees also highlight remote-team connection, transparency and alignment with values such as “be kind” and “do the right thing.” (Glassdoor, Comparably)

Bottom line: Flatiron Health’s approach to work-life balance combines flexible ways of working with intentional hybrid connection and well-being support, helping employees sustain meaningful oncology work while making room for life outside the job.

Flatiron Health's Candidate Tradeoffs

If you’re weighing whether Flatiron Health is the right fit, these are the core tradeoffs to consider.

  • Flatiron Health places greater emphasis on organization-wide flexibility and autonomy than on tightly standardized schedules and uniform work structures.

Flatiron Health Employee Perspectives

I am one of many working parents at Flatiron, with three kids ages four and under. Flatiron Health provides flexibility for employees to set their own schedules. This allows me to start my day earlier than most of my peers and block my calendar during school pickup. My team accommodates by scheduling meetings within my designated working hours. This alone has such a positive impact on my quality of life. I can fully engage in my career at Flatiron Health without missing out on the quality time I get with my children between school pickup and bedtime.

Flatiron Health Employee Reviews

The remote culture here is really great because Flatiron has invested significantly in the remote part of the hybrid experience. While it varies from team to team, the teams I’ve worked with have consisted of about one-third remote employees, and those in NYC tend to go into the office 2-3 days per week so our culture is pretty hybrid-friendly. I always feel completely looped into conversations and have a great connection with my teammates through Zoom meetings and occasional trips to NYC to meet up and collaborate with everyone in person.

One of my favorite benefits about working at Flatiron is hybrid work. Since I can be intentional on when to collaborate in-person, I feel motivated when I come into our NYC office. Being able to stay home on days when I need to focus or just stay in the comfort of my space makes me feel like I'm in an environment that supports me and my working style.
