Skydance is seeking an experienced technical leader to drive AI-focused game technology research and development, enabling the next generation of immersive, adaptive, and intelligent storytelling in games. This role will lead the exploration, prototyping, and deployment of AI-driven systems across multiple game teams, partnering with technical and creative leadership to define a forward-looking technology roadmap.
As a Technical Director, you will build and grow a team of engineers focused on AI systems, gameplay intelligence, and developer-facing tools, transforming research into scalable, production-ready technology that enhances both player experience and development workflows.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior technical leadership in the architecture, design, and delivery of AI-driven game technologies, from early research through production integration.
- Partner with game, engine, and creative leadership to define and execute a multi-title AI technology roadmap, balancing innovation with production realities.
- Lead exploration of AI applications for games, including (but not limited to) NPC behavior, player modeling, procedural systems, generative content, and intelligent tooling.
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a culture of experimentation, technical excellence, and collaboration.
Requirements
- Proven technical leadership with the ability to architect systems and execution plans for complex, multi-team technology initiatives.
- Deep understanding of the game development lifecycle, including current production challenges and opportunities for AI-driven innovation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain advanced AI and systems concepts to non-technical partners.
- Experience guiding R&D efforts while maintaining a clear path to production-ready solutions.
Qualifications
- Shipped multiple titles using Unreal Engine in a senior or lead technical role.
- Several years of experience building, leading, and mentoring engineering teams.
- Hands-on experience developing new game technologies, including AI systems, gameplay frameworks, or developer tools.
- Background in applied AI/ML for games or interactive systems is strongly preferred.
The annual salary range for this position in Los Angeles is $230,000 – $250,000. The salary offered may vary based on the candidate’s location, qualifications, experience and relevant expertise, among other factors. The range indicated is for base salary only and does not reflect the total compensation package, including bonus, benefits, etc.
