Position Summary

Under general direction from the Electrical Project Manager the Assistant Project Manager supports all project work to be implemented, installed, and managed in accordance with the Company’s requirements, including but not limited to safety, quality, management and financial performance requirements. This position ensures all aspects of assigned projects are carried out as efficiently as possible with respect to staffing, materials management, financial management, customer care, and customer delivery goals.  The Assistant Project Manager coordinates project staffing requirements and collaborates with Project Manager and Site Superintendent to ensure the timely completion of projects in strict accordance with plans, specifications, and local codes.

Principal Accountabilities - This position requires daily, weekly and monthly responsibilities that must be completed in a timely manner.

  • Possess complete knowledge of the terms of the installation documents, including the complete drawings, specifications, addenda, change documents, and any other pertinent documents.
  • Works with Project Managers to develop overall project schedules. Assists in the periodic updating of these schedules throughout the course of installations.
  • Actively participates in pre-work meetings to familiarize partners with the project schedule, installation methods, Company procedures and policies, and quality standards expected.
  • Attends regular work group meetings to review and update schedules, RFI’s, and change orders with Project Manager
  • Reviews and monitors operational processes for accuracy, completeness, and efficiency, including but not limited to estimating, purchasing, invoicing, warehousing, scheduling and reporting.
  • Actively promotes safety as a first priority on all projects. Supports in the coordination of Safety Training and the provision of PPE to all crew members.
  • Manages all quality issues related to project installations.  Performs quality checks, manages the prevention of outages, and attends job walks to ensure Company quality standards.
  • Maintains positive, continuous communication with customers, as needed, with the Project Manager. 
  • Fully understands the Contract Documents, ABLe _ GC Subcontract, General Conditions, Job Specific Scope, contract drawings, second tier subcontracts and specifications.
  • Assist Project Manager in creating material orders and sending to purchasing
  • Reviews fully all quotes from vendors all quoted materials are accurate, matches specifications, fixture schedules, quantities, etc.  This includes all quotes for gear, generators and ensures all equipment is vetted for the specific project conditions, ex; Panel HA Bottom Fed Lugs.
  • Creates a Schedule of Value (SOV) per the Construction Estimate
  • Fully documents Change Order Requests (COR Log) and includes all relevant documents; Subcontractor Quote, Vendor Quote and any RFQ’s associated with pricing.
  • Maintains Submittal Logs, COR Logs, PCO Logs, Tracking Logs (fixtures and gear)
Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Job Requirements - This position requires at least the following minimum requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to define a project, track project scope of work, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion. 
  • Proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrated detailed level of technical knowledge; able to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise.
  • Must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and lead internal/external cross-functional and partner teams to develop lookahead schedules and leveling manpower needs.
  • Demonstrated skills in requirements gathering, resource organization, task prioritization, scheduling and achieving objectives.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, ability to present ideas in a business and user-friendly language. 
  • Must have excellent team experience, working in a team orientated, collaborative environment.  Must also have exceptional customer service orientation and ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed and meet company minimum driving standards.
  • Must be physically capable of moving about on substructures work sites and under adverse field conditions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (or office suite software).

Typical Physical and Mental Demands -

The position may require long hours, handle conflicts, and make decisions under pressure. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must stand, walk, use hands and fingers to, handle, feel or operate tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must climb a ladder while, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and smell.  The employee must have specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.   The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Must have a valid driver’s license, auto insurance and no moving citations.
