We help utilities target and serve their customers more effectively, enhance and optimize their grid, and leverage operating best practices and technologies to manage their business more effectively. As an Associate Director, you will manage research and evaluation consulting projects while leading project teams to deliver value for our clients. In this role, you will craft research and analytical solutions for clients in collaboration with subject matter experts and technical and consulting staff. The Associate Director applies strong problem-solving, communication, team leadership, and technical skills to advance client service delivery.

We’re looking for someone who brings demonstrated knowledge of and expertise in market transformation programs and building electrification, as well as qualitative research methods.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage client relationships by identifying client needs, risks, and opportunities, and helping develop research and evaluation strategies and solutions to address them.

  • Lead and contribute to the execution of research, evaluation, and advisory projects to ensure client satisfaction.

  • Develop research and evaluation solutions that adhere to industry best practices and apply innovations in research methodology.

  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver work that meets defined objectives and client expectations.

  • Ensure project scopes, schedules, and budgets are executed successfully and in alignment with contract requirements.

  • Communicate complex technical content, including research methodology and findings, to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Support quality assurance by helping establish review processes and staffing approaches.

  • Conduct quality-control reviews of analyses, reports, presentations, and memos to ensure findings are clear, logical, and actionable.

  • Author client-facing memos, reports, and presentations.

  • Design and lead qualitative research projects, including in-depth interviews, focus groups, and other qualitative methods, and synthesize findings into clear, actionable recommendations.

  • Lead and support building electrification research and evaluation projects, assessing program design, customer adoption, technology trends, and market impacts.

  • Supervise and mentor junior consulting staff to support their professional growth and advancement.

You’re likely a great fit if you:

  • Are comfortable navigating ambiguity and asking smart questions

  • Work well across disciplines and perspectives

  • Have a demonstrated ability to lead research and evaluation studies from design through delivery

  • Bring strong project management skills, including managing scopes, schedules, budgets, and quality assurance

  • Have experience supporting client relationships and serving as a trusted advisor

  • Can synthesize complex information into clear recommendations

  • Can communicate research methodology and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Bring strong qualitative research skills and enjoy turning rich, complex input into clear themes and recommendations

  • Are energized by the building electrification transition and the market changes driving it

  • Have experience working with or around utilities, energy, consulting, research, or adjacent fields

  • Are familiar with impact evaluations, process evaluations, and market assessments

And even better if you:

  • Have presented at industry conferences or contributed to industry thought leadership

  • Bring knowledge of energy policy, regulatory frameworks, or program environments

  • Have experience supporting business development efforts, including proposal development, scope design, and finalist presentations

Experience and Skills to Qualify Include:

  • Approximately 7+ years of professional experience, with at least 5 years designing and implementing energy research and evaluation projects

  • Demonstrated experience with market transformation programs, including their design, implementation, or evaluation

  • Demonstrated experience designing and conducting qualitative research, such as in-depth interviews, focus groups, and thematic analysis, and translating qualitative findings into clear recommendations

  • Subject-matter knowledge of building electrification, including program design, technologies, customer adoption, or market dynamics

  • Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, engineering, or a related field

At E Source, you’ll work alongside people who are thoughtful, curious, and deeply knowledgeable about utility and energy systems. We value clarity over jargon, substance over flash, and collaboration over ego. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills, contribute to meaningful work, and help shape a company that plays a real role in how the energy future unfolds.

What you can expect

  • Excellent insurance options, including medical, dental, and vision plans; company-paid life insurance; company-paid long- and short-term disability insurance; medical and dependent-care flexible spending plans, and paid parental leave.

  • A flexible time off (FTO) policy that provides paid time away from work, approved by your manager, while ensuring business needs, workload commitments, and appropriate coverage are maintained.

  • A 401(k) plan with a 3% employer match.

The budgeted salary for this position is $120,000–$150,000 USD + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

This role will be remote, with travel 1–4 times a year.

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US or Canada. We’re unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas or Labour Market Impact Assessments (Cdn) at this time.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
