Tokyo Electron markets a wide range of semiconductor production equipment (SPE) products and provides outstanding service and support to semiconductor device manufacturers. TEL's world-renowned products and technologies support diverse customer needs for the manufacturing of increasingly sophisticated semiconductors. An internship at TEL is a great opportunity for a student to gain valuable experience while engaging in technically challenging projects that provide value by advancing our technology.

Position Summary:
TEL is seeking a summer intern with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation expertise to work in the Surface Preparation System (SPS) Advanced Technology Group (ATG) located in Austin, Texas. This intern will support multiphysics simulations for wet etching and wet cleaning processes for semiconductor manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

  • Build models to better understand and optimize wet chemical processes.
  • Build predictive models anchored to experimental data.
  • Build simulation models with a goal to optimize process and tool design.
  • Develop new chemical treatment equipment, process and software technologies in collaboration with our Surface Preparation Systems factory and marketing teams in Japan.
  • Collaborate global projects with TEL US R&D sites, consortia (IMEC), semiconductor customers, vendors and/or universities using strong communication skills.
  • Strong emphasis is placed on candidates that can find solutions to difficult problems through structured project management while working in a team environment.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree or higher (pursuing M.S. or PhD preferred) in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Mechanics or equivalent fields specializing in the area of Computational Engineering
  • Knowledge of reduced-order modeling or machine learning-based surrogate modeling is desirable.
  • Experience in reproducing spatial data distributions from high-fidelity CFD models using reduced-order or data-driven models is desirable.
  • Knowledge of transport phenomena: fluid dynamics, heat transfer, mass transfer and chemical reactions is desirable.
  • Knowledge of numerical methods: finite element method (FEM), finite volume method (FVM), thin film/integral boundary layer (IBL) method, and smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is desirable.
  • Experience with modeling fluid dynamics, fluid-solid interaction and mesoscale simulations is desirable.
  • Experience with simulation software such as COMSOL, Star-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, etc. is desirable.
  • Experience with programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, etc. is desirable.
  • Relevant semiconductor manufacturing experience and/or equipment experience with advanced knowledge of wet etching and wet cleaning technologies preferred.
