EQT is seeking an Attorney/Senior Attorney to provide practical, business-aligned legal support to operational teams (primarily upstream and midstream land and surface operations), enabling efficient execution while identifying and managing legal risk. This individual will deliver clear, actionable advice and high-quality work product in a fast-paced operational environment.

The Attorney/Senior Attorney responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Scope & Ownership

  • Support day-to-day legal needs of operational departments, including contract drafting, negotiation, and legal interpretation.
  • Advise on operational matters such as leases, surface use agreements, right-of-way agreements, heavy hauling agreements, and local permitting processes.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to facilitate business objectives while managing legal and regulatory risk.

Legal Advice

  • Provide clear, practical legal guidance on operational matters.
  • Translate legal requirements into actionable business recommendations.

Drafting & Negotiation

  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements including:
    • Leases and mineral agreements
    • Surface use and right-of-way agreements
    • Heavy hauling and municipal agreements
  • Ensure alignment with company standards and risk tolerance.

 Legal Risk Management

  • Identify and evaluate legal risks associated with operational decisions.
  • Support resolution of disputes, including pre-litigation matters.

 Collaboration & Business Partnership

  • Work closely with multiple departments, including Land, Surface Permitting & Civil, and Midstream teams.
  • Communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.

 Industry & Regulatory Awareness

  • Maintain knowledge of oil & gas laws, particularly in the Appalachian Basin.
  • Monitor regulatory and industry developments.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active bar license.
  • 3+ years relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting upstream and/or midstream oil & gas operations, including knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations affecting upstream and/or midstream oil and gas operations in the Appalachian Basin.
  • Strong communication, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to travel 5-10% of the time for team events/meetings. 


Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • 7+ years relevant experience.
  • Direct experience with:
    • Land and surface agreements
    • Midstream commercial agreements
    • Municipal contract and permitting processes
  • Experience working closely with operational business teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage legal technology and workflow tools.

Remote work is being considered for this role excluding the following states:  California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Tennessee unless willing to relocate.


Selected incumbent will be placed into the position that best suits their abilities and experience level.
