Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Azure Engineer to design, deploy, and manage secure, scalable Azure cloud infrastructure, with a strong focus on batch processing and automation following a mainframe-to-Azure migration.

This role will primarily focus on converting legacy mainframe batch jobs (JCL, GDGs, PDS) into modern, automated PowerShell-based workflows in Azure, ensuring reliability, performance, and security across batch cycles.

The ideal candidate will have strong scripting expertise, experience with Azure services, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.


Key Roles & Responsibilities

Batch Migration & Automation

  • Convert legacy mainframe batch jobs (JCL) into PowerShell scripts
  • Analyze and interpret JCL, GDG, and PDS structures to replicate functionality in Azure
  • Automate daily, weekly, and monthly batch cycles using Azure-native tools
  • Ensure job dependency management, sequencing, and scheduling

Azure Infrastructure & Operations

  • Deploy and manage Azure resources to support batch workloads
  • Configure and maintain compute, storage, and networking components
  • Optimize infrastructure for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency

Monitoring, Logging & Reliability

  • Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting using Azure Monitor and Application Insights
  • Ensure high availability and reliability of batch processes
  • Troubleshoot failures and perform root cause analysis

Security & Compliance

  • Implement secure handling of credentials using Azure Key Vault
  • Follow best practices for code signing and secure PowerShell module development
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards

Performance Optimization

  • Improve batch processing performance through parallelism, concurrency, and thread safety
  • Optimize scripts for efficiency and scalability

Collaboration & Delivery

  • Work with business stakeholders to gather and document batch processing requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (developers, DBAs, mainframe experts, architects)
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives)
  • Support migration strategy and execution

 

Mandatory Skills

  • PowerShell scripting (advanced level)
  • Mainframe JCL (Job Control Language)
  • Experience converting or working with mainframe batch jobs (JCL, GDG, PDS)
  • Strong understanding of batch job scheduling and automation

 

Required Technical Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in PowerShell scripting and automation
  • 3+ years of experience working with Azure services and infrastructure
  • Experience with Azure Storage, Azure Monitor, Application Insights
  • Knowledge of Azure Key Vault and security best practices
  • Experience with C#/.NET and SQL Server
  • Understanding of threading, concurrency, and performance optimization
  • Experience with migration projects (mainframe to cloud preferred)

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience operationalizing large-scale batch processing systems
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
  • Exposure to hybrid cloud or enterprise migration programs

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent

Soft Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
  • Proactive mindset with focus on automation and operational excellence

Team & Collaboration

  • Work closely with program managers, architects, developers, and mainframe SMEs
  • Participate in collaborative problem-solving and technical discussions
