Position Summary

The Backend Engineer supports the Juno Labs team by building and optimizing backend services to enable dynamic rule configuration and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) integrations. This role focuses on implementing event-class–driven workflows that retrieve the appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in real time, enhancing system responsiveness and decision support. The engineer collaborates closely with AI/ML, CloudOps, and security teams to deliver secure, reliable, and efficient backend solutions that meet project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain backend services to support dynamic rules configuration for event-driven workflows Implement RAG hooks to enable intelligent retrieval of SOPs tailored to specific event classes Integrate backend solutions with upstream AI/ML and observability components to streamline workflow execution Optimize system performance and scalability to handle real-time SOP retrieval and event processing Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align backend design with project requirements and client standards Secure backend APIs, data flows, and RAG retrieval processes in accordance with security and compliance requirements Test and validate backend services to ensure reliability, accuracy, and fault tolerance Document system architecture, configuration rules, and integration patterns for knowledge sharing and compliance Enhance backend capabilities to improve responsiveness and adaptability to evolving project needs Support troubleshooting and incident response efforts related to backend workflows and integrations Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • U.S. Citizenship (required for designated client projects)
  • 4+ years of experience in backend engineering for cloud-based or hybrid systems
  • Proficiency in implementing rules-based engines and integrating RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) capabilities
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architectures and real-time data processing
  • Experience with common backend languages and frameworks (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java, or Go)
  • Familiarity with API security, data encryption, and role-based access control
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across AI/ML, DevOps, and security teams
  • Excellent problem-solving, testing, and documentation skills
  • Alignment with RTS Core Values
