Overview: Supply Chain API and Microservices Development

The Backend Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for the development, scaling, and maintenance of the core API services that power our entire integrated platform. You will build highly reliable, secure, and performant backend services within the NestJS modular monolith, focusing on critical supply chain logic, complex payment integrations, and the orchestration backbone for our AI agents.

Internship Details

Duration: 3 months
Start Date: Immediate
Location: Remote
Stipend: None initially. Based on your first-quarter performance, you may be offered a paid full-time opportunity, or even be absorbed directly by the client as an FTE.

Key Responsibilities & Core Projects

You will own the backend development for the most complex domain logic, ensuring scalability and transactional integrity.

  • API Development & Implementation: Design, develop, and deploy highly scalable APIs for all platform components using Node.js 22 and NestJS within the TypeScript modular monolith. This includes the backends for the e-commerce checkout, internal tool APIs, and the B2B portal.

  • SCM Domain Logic: Implement complex, transactional business logic within the core supply chain modules: Order Management (OMS), Warehouse Management (WMS), and Manufacturing Execution (MES). Ensure data integrity using PostgreSQL 15.

  • Integrations & Payments: Implement secure, reliable integrations with third-party payment gateways and external shipping/logistics providers.

  • Performance & Reliability: Implement effective caching strategies using Redis to boost API performance. Design and implement asynchronous processing and event-driven workflows to ensure system reliability and handle high-volume operations.

  • Security & Monitoring: Ensure all services adhere to security standards (JWT authorization, API security). Integrate backend services with the observability stack (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Loki) for monitoring and tracing.

Required Technologies & Tools

Candidates must possess deep, hands-on experience with our core backend and data stack:

  • Core Backend: Expert proficiency in Node.js 22, NestJS, and TypeScript (mandatory).

  • Data Layer: Strong expertise in PostgreSQL 15 (schema design, query optimization) and utilizing Redis for caching.

  • Architecture: Experience designing and implementing APIs (REST/GraphQL), asynchronous communication, and event-driven patterns.

  • Workflow: Experience working within a Monorepo structure, contributing to CI/CD via Makefile, and utilizing Docker for local development.

AI Agent Focus

You will build the reliable, secure services required for AI agent orchestration.

  • Agent Orchestration: Develop the backend services and API endpoints necessary to securely orchestrate, manage, and scale the AI agent systems.

  • Data Access Services: Implement secure, high-performance services that allow AI agents (using frameworks like LangChain) to access and write necessary data to the WMS/OMS modules without compromising transactional integrity.

Success Metrics & Career Path

Performance will be measured by:

  • Service Reliability: Uptime and stability of deployed services, achieving defined SLOs.

  • Code Quality & Efficiency: Delivery of clean, well-tested, and performant code that scales effectively.

  • Feature Velocity: Timely and efficient delivery of complex backend features, particularly within the critical OMS and WMS modules.

Mentorship Structure: Reports to the Technical Architect or Engineering Lead, working directly with Frontend, QA, and SRE teams to deliver high-quality supply chain functionality.
