The Business Development Manager is responsible for expanding BlueScope Coated Products’ market presence across a defined region by identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities for coil-coated metal solutions.

This role focuses on building deep customer relationships across OEMs, service centers, fabricators, distributors, and specification influencers while championing the company’s value proposition in quality, service, innovation, and supply chain reliability.

The preferred candidate brings a sharp commercial acumen, genuine technical curiosity, and a proactive, entrepreneurial approach, adept at identifying emerging opportunities and fostering enduring growth partnerships.

The Business Development Manager drives growth among coil painting customers—both toll and single bill—by executing strategies that boost recruitment, expand accounts, and enhance BlueScope Coated Products' market position.

Key Focus Areas

Market Expansion & Growth

  • Prospect, qualify, and convert new business opportunities within assigned territory across all major coil-coated end markets (building products, appliance, transportation, industrial, agriculture, and specialty applications).
  • Map the regional value chain (service centers → fabricators → OEMs → specifiers) to drive pull-through demand.
  • Develop targeted growth plans and pipeline strategies that align with BlueScope’s commercial priorities.

Customer Development

  • Build and nurture strong relationships with purchasing, engineering, plant managers, and executive-level stakeholders across customer accounts.
  • Conduct on-site visits, technical discussions, and commercial reviews to understand application requirements and value levers.
  • Collaborate with internal product, technical, and operations teams to support customer trials, qualifications, and onboarding.

Commercial Execution

  • Manage the sales cycle from opportunity identification through qualification, proposal, contract negotiation, and closing.
  • Forecast and monitor territory performance against growth targets and pipeline metrics.
  • Represent BlueScope at regional trade events, customer open houses, and industry association activities.
Foundational Experience

Qualifications Required

  • 8-10 years of sales, territory management, or business development experience in coil coating, rolled steel, metal processing, industrial coatings, or closely related B2B manufacturing segments.
  • Working knowledge of flat-rolled steel/aluminum supply chain dynamics (service center distribution, OEM consumption, fabricator networks, etc.).
  • Strong relationship-building skills and comfort with field-based customer engagement.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

Preferred

  • Experience selling into architectural, appliance, industrial, or specialty metal markets.
  • Familiarity with technical performance attributes of coil-coated systems (durability, corrosion resistance, aesthetics, warranties, etc.).
  • Successful track record in territory growth or new market entry.
  • Strong Aluminum background
