As a Database Administrator (DBA)/Database Developer in our Technology/Engineering department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the performance, scalability, and security of our AWS Aurora PostgreSQL databases. You’ll collaborate with engineers to design robust systems, optimize queries, and support our multi-tenant architecture, all while maintaining compliance with industry standards. • Monitor real-time database performance, including blocked queries and database locks. • Manage and maintain user permissions, ensuring proper access control to schemas and tables. • Develop and execute custom Django migrations when standard migrations are inefficient or too slow. • Perform custom large-scale database edits to resolve data integrity issues or operational anomalies. • Implement blue/green table migration strategies for safe and seamless data structure changes. Key Responsibilities Identify, analyze and optimize slow queries using EXPLAIN plans and index tuning. Tune PostgreSQL settings (e.g., work_mem, shared_buffers, autovacuum) for optimal performance. Actively optimize inefficient and eliminate stored procedures Provide guidance on query optimization, transaction handling, and data modeling. Assist in debugging production incidents and support root cause analysis (RCA). Recommend scaling strategies, such as vertical or horizontal scaling, to meet demand. Design and implement scalable multi-tenant customer schemas via Sharding to handle growing clients. Collaborate with engineers to design efficient, normalized database schemas. Review schema changes to ensure performance and scalability for future growth. Maintain logs and controls to meet compliance requirements (e.g., SOC2, HIPAA, GDPR). Support audits by providing traceable database activity records. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in database administration or development, preferably with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL. Proven expertise in PostgreSQL and AWS (e.g., Aurora RDS, EC2, S3). Familiarity with Aurora Serverless, Django and React would be a plus. Experience with compliance standards (e.g., SOC2, HIPAA, GDPR) is highly desirable. Skills Strong proficiency in analyzing and optimizing SQL queries using EXPLAIN plans and indexing. Deep understanding of PostgreSQL configuration and performance tuning Experience optimizing large table migrations, sharding and data retention policies Ability to design scalable, normalized database schemas for multi-tenant systems. Excellent problem-solving skills and experience with production incident debugging. Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Knowledge of compliance requirements and audit processes.
CompensationThe base pay range for this role is $3,500 – $5,000 per month.
