About Sunbound

Company. Sunbound is building the “financial OS for senior care”. The current senior care payments experience is broken which increases costs and inefficiencies for senior living operators while making it confusing, cumbersome and stressful for families. Sunbound was created to solve this problem by building the first modern platform to handle this process end-to-end and save operators and families time, money and effort.

Mission. Our founders were inspired to start the business after seeing the pain points firsthand with their own families, and deeply care about helping one of the most overlooked groups in our population: seniors. Sunbound’s mission is to make managing money for senior living easy, so our customers can focus on what really matters: providing quality housing & care.

Team. We're a dedicated, close-knit group focused on expanding hubs in Downtown Brooklyn, NYC, and Washington, DC.

Traction. Since launching in mid-2023, we now serve thousands of families. We’re currently doing 7 figures in ARR.

Growth. Sunbound has absolutely caught fire as a business, growing 30% month-over-month. The senior living market is massive at >$230b and is expected to grow rapidly as the “baby boomer” generation continues to age.

Funding. We've raised now multiple rounds of funding from top-tier investors. Our cap table includes TTV Capital, Fika Ventures, Bling Capital, Liquid2 Ventures, Cambrian Ventures and Max Ventures. These firms have collectively backed over 20 unicorns such as Square, Lyft and Rippling. We also have backing from key industry strategics including LiveOak Bank and Omega Healthcare Investors (the REIT).

About the role

We’re looking for a Claims Billing Specialist to lead our growing Claims Operations team. You’ll report to our Revenue Cycle Management Operations Lead and help ensure billing for our customers is on-time and accurate. This is a highly collaborative team with lots of opportunities to shape the direction of the Claims team and processes along with partnering with Product to ensure we are building the right tools.

Responsibilities
  • Clean, review, and submit claims for senior living health providers (specifically assisted living and skilled nursing / nursing home providers)

  • Ensure coding and documentation compliance with CMS and payer-specific requirements

  • Track claim statuses and remittances

  • Work denials and follow up with unpaid claims proactively

  • Evaluate insurance operations and identify efficiency improvements

  • Analyze EOBs and post manual payments

What we expect from you:
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree required.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in billing, claims follow up, and denial management.

  • Strong understanding of Medicare/Medicaid guidelines, managed care plans, and private insurance billing.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and communication skills.

Bonus Qualifications
  • Certification in medical billing/coding (e.g., CPC, CCA) is a plus.

  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and clearinghouses.

  • Familiarity with payer portals (Availity, Navinet, Provider One, PaySpan, etc.)

Why join us:
  • Low-ego, tight-knit, collaborative, high-performing team

  • Product-led culture with continuous improvement, blameless post-mortems and intellectual honesty

  • A committed group of individuals laser-focused on our mission → making managing money for senior living easy, so our customers can focus on what really matters

  • A group full of ambition - we know we can, and will, achieve great things

  • Timing! Sunbound is at an inflection point. Every month, we reach new levels of scale. We’ve proven we can execute on the basics; now we need to repeat and build on that success. This provides stability, while still being early enough that there are lots of opportunities for full ownership of new projects, and we can also give meaningful equity in the business’s success.

Equal opportunity employment

We are an equal opportunity employer. We search for amazing people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We take care of each other to create an inclusive work environment where we love to come to work every day. We'd be happy to provide reasonable accommodations to help you apply – just email us at [email protected]. We hope you can join us.
