The Opportunity

Our Client Legal Services Litigation Attorney position will litigate cases throughout the state of Texas, with a primary focus on Dallas/Houston.

This role will work closely with our claim centers and insureds to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation.  Our ideal candidate will be part of a unique team responsible for providing top quality representation of Root Insurance and its insureds for litigated matters involving auto, property, subrogation and general liability files. These cases will be handled from inception through trial resolution.


Salary Range:  $120,000 - $140,000
While Root is a “work where it works best” company, this role must be based in either Dallas or Houston, Texas.


How You Will Make an Impact

  • Analyze complex legal factual issues while conducting extensive and well reasoned legal research.
  • Independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients for auto and general liability cases from inception through trial; Handle all aspects of case management, discovery, trial preparation from inception through resolution.
  • Prepare pleadings, written discovery, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies. 
  • Provide effective and timely information, legal advice, and other services.
  • Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion.
  • Participate in claims file reviews; Provide advice and training to the claim partners and clients.
  • Work closely with the claim department to ensure legal compliance, mitigate risk, and negotiate settlements.
  • Stay current on Texas Insurance Laws, advising internal teams, and independently participate in mediation, depositions, arbitration, trials, and settlement discussions to protect the company’s interests.
  • Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain a high level of professional expertise.
  • Integrate legal support staff into the case handling process; Create and maintain software documentation.


What You Will Need to Succeed

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school and a license to practice in the state of Texas is required.
  • 1+ years of experience handling bodily injury claims with proven trial expertise.
  • First chair jury trial experience in negligence cases is preferred.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of cases and prioritize effectively.
  • Previous experience handling personal injury litigation from inception to trial is preferred.
  • Legal research and motion practice expertise.
  • Positive minded and collaborative team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with stowers and bad faith litigation.
  • Google Office proficiency and LexisNexis experience is a plus.
  • The position requires 10-15% of travel within the state of Texas for court and file related appearance.
