Description:The Workers’ Compensation Program Supervisor provides operational leadership and oversight for the Workers’ Compensation Program, ensuring efficient coordination of care and exceptional service for injured workers, employers, payers, and referral partners. This role serves as the primary liaison among nurse case managers, workers’ compensation carriers, third-party administrators, attorneys, providers, employers, and clinic staff to support timely and compliant management of workers’ compensation cases. The Supervisor is responsible for overseeing program staff, optimizing workflows, ensuring appropriate authorizations and documentation are obtained, and promoting collaboration among internal and external stakeholders. This position supports the growth, quality, compliance, and financial performance of the Workers’ Compensation Program while fostering a patient-centered and service-oriented environment.

Location: Bettendorf, IA

Schedule:

  • 40 hours per week
  • Day shift
  • Mostly M-F. Occasional Evenings and Weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.  
  • Provides direct supervision, leadership, coaching, scheduling, training, and performance management for Workers’ Compensation Program staff, including RN Case Managers, Referral Specialists, Authorization Specialists, and Clerical Secretaries. Responsible for hiring, onboarding, staff development, and payroll reporting for assigned colleagues. 
  • Serves as the primary liaison between RN Case Managers, workers’ compensation carriers, third-party administrators, employers, attorneys, physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinic staff to facilitate coordinated, timely, and effective patient care. 
  • Partners with Referral Specialists and Authorization Specialists to ensure all required documentation is complete, patient appropriateness for clinic services is verified, authorizations are secured, and regulatory and payer requirements are met prior to treatment. 
  • Collaborates with physicians and advanced practice providers to facilitate the completion of required compensation documentation, including work status reports, medical necessity letters, attorney correspondence, return-to-work recommendations, and other case-related communications 
  • Promotes an environment of Patient Centered Care by ensuring injured workers receive coordinated, efficient, and compassionate care throughout the continuum of treatment and recovery 
  • Monitors workers’ compensation program performance metrics, including referral volumes, authorization turnaround times, case progression, scheduling efficiency, and stakeholder satisfaction. Identifies opportunities for operational improvement and implements corrective actions as needed. 
  • Assists in the development and management of the program budget. Monitors utilization of personnel and operational resources, making recommendations to improve efficiency while meeting budgetary goals 
  • Ensures mandatory education requirements for assigned staff are met, including mentoring and training of staff on changes in the health care environment.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies, workers’ compensation regulations, payer requirements, legal standards, and documentation guidelines. Participates in the development, review, and implementation of program policies and workflows 
  • Schedules and supervises specific clerical personnel in the clinic. Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate. Reconciles providers’ resource schedules.  
  • Maintains supply inventory and stocks supplies in various work areas.  
  • Demonstrates functional knowledge of essential functions for the job classes that are directly supervised.  
  • Monitors and maintains licensure certification requirements for assigned staff are met.  
  • Up to 49% of the role may be functioning in the capacity of staff. Work includes cross coverage in other clinic areas as team needs. 
  • Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager. 
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.   
  • Required the ability to read, write, and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and colleagues while performing their job duties.   
  • Must meet one of the following: 1) Current license or certification in one of the following roles: RN, LPN, CMA, Radiology Tech, Lab Tech, Surgical Tech or Mental Health Therapist; or 2) Associate's degree in business, nursing, health administration; or 3) Bachelor's degree in business, nursing, health administration; or 4) enrolled in a Bachelor’s program and actively pursuing. In limited circumstances, applicable MercyOne experience and/or external supervisory experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements at the sole discretion of MercyOne Medical Group senior leadership. 
  • Knowledge of CPT codes, billing and collection practices, fee structures, and practice standards  
  • Two years’ experience in a clinic/physician office.  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.  
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population serve within three (3) months of hire.  
  • Computer proficiency including Word, Excel, and office management computer program experience  
  • Experience setting goals, defining objectives, and working directly with physicians  
  • Financial background including use of spreadsheets, preparing financial reports, analyzing financial information, and preparing budgets  
  • Extensive quality assurance background with a proven commitment to high standards of performance  
  • Experience with applicable state and federal regulatory agencies and occupational health safety laws governing clinic operation  
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
