We are seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated UAS Operations Safety Specialist to join our regulations and safety department. This role is critical in ensuring our UAS operations comply with FAA regulations and Percepto’s internal standards. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, collaborating across teams, and traveling frequently—up to 50% of the time—to evaluate and audit operational sites and engage with local communities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, UAS, Engineering, Safety, or a related field, or equivalent operational experience.
- Experience in aviation operations, UAS operations, or aviation safety, with a strong understanding of how operational risk is managed in practice.
- Working knowledge of aviation risk assessment methodologies, including hazard identification, likelihood and severity evaluation, and development of practical mitigations within an SMS or equivalent safety framework.
- Strong understanding of airspace, traffic environments, and ground risk factors as they relate to UAS operations, including how airspace use, surrounding activity, terrain, and population influence operational risk and mitigations.
- Familiarity with FAA Part 107 and how it applies operationally (not just theoretically).
- Strong observational skills and the ability to translate field observations into clear, actionable safety findings.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate effectively with pilots, operators, and cross-functional teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% within the U.S. and Canada.
Why This Role Matters
This role is critical to ensuring that safety is not just documented, but understood, applied, and effective in the field. The Safety Specialist helps bridge the gap between written procedures and real-world operations, supporting pilots and operators while strengthening the overall safety posture of the organization.
