About Us

We are the modern accounting and finance partner for consumer brands across ecommerce and wholesale. Our clients rely on us to not only close the books but to help them understand profitability across retail, distributor, and e-commerce channels. We are looking for a strong Controller who thrives in a fast-paced, client-service environment and has deep expertise in QuickBooks Online (QBO), inventory-heavy accounting, ecommerce revenue recognition, and CPG trade-spend nuances.

Role Overview

The Controller is responsible for the review and quality assurance of month-end close process, financial reporting, and accounting operations across a portfolio of consumer brand clients. You will oversee the work prepared by bookkeepers – reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial packages for accuracy prior to client delivery (and revising as necessary). This role sits between the preparers and the Accounting Services Manager: your job is to catch errors, enforce accounting standards, and ensure the books are clean and close-ready. This role requires a blend of technical GAAP knowledge, QBO expertise, and practical understanding of ecommerce- and CPG-specific accounting (e.g., Amazon & Shopify revenue recognition, UNFI/KeHE deductions, 3PL reconciliations, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Review and sign off on month-end close packages prepared by bookkeepers for assigned clients, including journal entries, accruals, inventory adjustments, and balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Prepare client-ready month-end close financial packages with supporting commentary for client leadership teams in a timely fashion.

Systems & Tools

  • Review and maintain QBO environments for assigned clients – auditing chart of accounts structure, class and location tracking, and integration mappings (e.g., Bill.com, Ramp, Expensify, Cin7, Shopify, Amazon, SPS, etc.) to ensure accuracy and consistency.

  • Identify and escalate systems issues, integration errors, and workflow inefficiencies to the Accounting Services Manager; contribute to process improvements as a subject matter expert on day-to-day accounting workflows.

Ecommerce-Specific Accounting

  • Reconcile ecommerce platform payouts and marketplace settlements (Shopify, Amazon, etc.) against the general ledger; prepare and review gross-to-net revenue analysis by channel and platform.

  • Reconcile inventory, costing entries, and COGS across multiple channels and 3PL providers; identify and resolve discrepancies against client inventory systems.

  • For clients with wholesale revenue: review and sign off on accounting for trade promotions, distributor deductions, and chargebacks.

Team Review & Internal Collaboration

  • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for clients on routine accounting questions and close- or financial operations-related issues, escalating relationship matters, new scope, and strategic financial questions internally as needed.

  • Serve as the primary reviewer of bookkeeper work product across assigned clients, providing written feedback, encoring accounting standards, and ensuring deliverables are close-ready.

  • Support fractional CFO services for clients across budget, forecast, and financial model preparation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA preferred but not required.

  • 5–7 years of accounting experience with strong emphasis on month-end close, financial reporting, and review – ideally within CPG, wholesale, or ecommerce.

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO), including advanced features, reporting, and integrations.

  • Familiarity with inventory management systems (e.g., Cin7, NetSuite, DEAR, etc.) and EDI preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP as applied to inventory, trade spend, and revenue recognition in ecommerce and/or CPG environments.

  • Comfortable managing multiple client deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced, remove accounting services environment.

  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, reconciliations, modeling).

  • Excellent communication skills; able to interact confidently with client contacts on day-to-day accounting matters.

We’re not just another accounting firm — we’re trusted partners to some of the fastest-growing consumer brands, leveraging modern technology to improve efficiency, scalability, and client experience.

Why Join Us

  • Be part of a fast-growing firm redefining how consumer brand operators view their financials.

  • Growth opportunities as we scale.

  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial environment with a focus on efficiency, client impact, and career development.

Perks & Benefits

  • Vacation: unlimited PTO, subject to manager’s approval + federal holidays

  • Healthcare: available through ICHRA reimbursement

  • Retirement: 401(k) plan incl. company match for contributions up to 3% of salary

  • Bonus: annual bonus subject to company’s discretion and performance
