About the Role

We are seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team and support the company’s global sales organisation. This is a collaborative role working closely with Sales and other business stakeholders to provide clear, pragmatic legal advice, support customer negotiations and help ensure that legal, regulatory, privacy and commercial risks are appropriately identified, communicated and managed.

The successful candidate will act as a trusted legal partner to the business, helping stakeholders navigate customer and channel transactions with sound judgement and a practical, solutions-oriented approach. They will be confident in assessing risk, escalating issues where appropriate and working with more senior members of the legal team on complex or strategic matters.

This role is ideal for an adaptable lawyer who enjoys commercial contracting, thrives in a fast-paced software environment and wants to develop broader in-house experience while helping the business achieve its objectives in a legally robust and practical way.

What You’ll Do
  • Build effective working relationships with Sales, Deal Desk, Revenue Operations and other business stakeholders to support customer and channel transactions.
  • Review, draft and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including SaaS, BaaS, software, professional services, channel agreements and NDAs, escalating complex or high-risk issues where appropriate.
  • Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice to Sales and business stakeholders, supporting negotiations while ensuring material legal, regulatory, privacy and commercial risks are appropriately identified, assessed and managed, and advising on compliance, data protection and internal approval requirements.
  • Support the development of practical solutions to contractual and commercial issues, balancing business objectives with appropriate risk mitigation and escalation where required.
  • Identify potential contractual, legal or operational issues during negotiations and work proactively with internal stakeholders to resolve them efficiently and reduce the risk of disputes or delays.
  • Assist with the development and continuous improvement of contract templates, negotiation playbooks and legal processes.
  • Support the creation and delivery of training and awareness materials to help business stakeholders understand legal risks, contracting principles and company approval processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the Legal department and contribute to a positive, supportive and high-performing team culture.
  • Assess and advise on data processing arrangements, customer privacy requirements and related contractual obligations, working closely with specialist privacy colleagues and more senior legal team members to ensure risks are properly understood and managed.
What You’ll Bring
  • Qualified lawyer with approximately 3–8+ years post-qualification experience, gained in a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Commercial contracts experience, ideally within a software, SaaS, cloud technology or broader technology company.
  • Strong drafting, contract review and negotiation skills, with experience supporting customer and/or partner transactions.
  • Ability to provide practical, succinct and commercially aware legal advice to business stakeholders.
  • Experience working with, or a strong interest in supporting, sales organisations and commercial teams in a fast-moving environment.
  • An understanding of privacy and data protection issues arising in commercial technology transactions, including customer contracting requirements relating to the processing, transfer, storage and protection of data.
  • Confidence to manage a high volume of matters, prioritise effectively and know when to seek input or escalate issues.
Bonus Skills
  • Sound commercial judgement and an ability to assess risk proportionately, with support from senior colleagues where needed.
  • A solutions-oriented mindset and genuine passion for helping the business succeed while ensuring legal and commercial risks are appropriately managed.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and willing to take ownership of matters, while recognising when collaboration or escalation is required.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters and competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain legal concepts clearly and provide practical advice to a range of stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with a willingness to learn, develop and contribute positively to the Legal team and wider business.
