Freese and Nichols is seeking a structural-focused Project Manager to lead the planning and delivery of dams, levees, and hydraulic structures across Central Texas. You will be responsible for structural analysis and design of new and rehabilitation projects, spillways, outlet works, intake structures, floodwalls, stilling basins, gates/hoists, and appurtenant facilities, along with oversight of drawing production, specifications, construction cost estimates, and QA/QC.

You will guide multidisciplinary teams and coordinate closely with hydraulics, geotechnical, and construction management staff across our Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina offices to deliver resilient, constructible solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Project Manager for complex structural projects involving dams, levees, floodwalls, and hydraulic structures (new construction and rehabilitation).
  • Manage structural design and rehabilitation of dams, levees, floodwalls, spillways, outlet works, intake structures, and stilling basins.
  • Direct and supervise studies, investigations, and designs to verify quality, consistency, and continuity.
  • Define tasks and oversee multidisciplinary teams of engineers, designers, CAD technicians, scientists, and consultants across multiple offices.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies throughout all project phases.
  • Evaluate and analyze design decisions to verify technical soundness, schedule adherence, and budget alignment.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, recommendations, and design documentation to support project objectives.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain project schedules and budgets, including monthly financial and status reporting.
  • Participate in preparing and implementing design contracts and verify compliance with project requirements.
  • Support construction‑phase services, including submittal/RFI reviews, responses to field conditions, change management, and site visits.

Qualifications
    • B.S. in Civil Engineering.
    • 6+ years of structural design experience for dams, levees, floodwalls, or hydraulic structures.
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) license (or the ability to become licensed within 6 months)
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor structural/design teams and coordinate multidisciplinary work.
    •  Proficiency in preparing calculation packages, drawings, and specifications; strong written and verbal communication skills.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • M.S. in Structural Engineering or related discipline
    • Advanced analysis experience: finite-element modeling (SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, ANSYS), soil–structure interaction, seismic/dynamic analysis, and anchor/tie down design for hydraulic structures. 
    • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards: ACI 318/350, AISC, ASCE 7, USACE EMs (1110-2 series), USBR Design Standards, FERC Engineering Guidelines, and FEMA/TCEQ guidance.
