T-Rex is seeking a Data Architect to support the Joint Operational Medicine Information Systems (JOMIS) portfolio within the Defense Healthcare Medical Systems (DHMS) program. The Data Architect will support how data is structured, integrated, governed, and used across the JOMIS program. This role focuses on establishing strong data interfaces and interconnectivity of our integrated JOMIS product ecosystem. The data architect will help to build a strong data foundations that supports operational medicine, reporting, analytics, and future AI capabilities. The Data Architect works closely with product teams, engineers, program leadership, and cybersecurity partners to ensure data is accurate, traceable, secure, and usable across systems. This role helps define how data moves through the JOMIS environment and ensures teams are aligned on standards and expectations.
The Defense Healthcare Management System is transforming the delivery of healthcare and advance data sharing through a modernized electronic health record for service members, veterans and their families. The Workforce 3.0 program within DHMS is a managed solution that leverages innovative new processes, methods, and best-in-class methodologies from the private sector to enable the entire PEO DHMS workforce to deliver world-class technology. The DHMS systems provide important health IT capabilities to 9.6 million active-duty military, their families, and their beneficiaries. Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain JOMIS data architecture standards, including data domains, naming conventions, and logical data models
- Document end-to-end data flows, including sources, transformations, storage, and downstream use
- Design and guide data integration approaches that support operational medicine workflows and reporting needs
- Establish and maintain data governance practices focused on quality, consistency, and traceability
- Ensure proper handling of sensitive data, including PHI and PII, in coordination with cybersecurity and compliance teams
- Define data structures and mappings that support interoperability across JOMIS systems and external partners
- Support analytics and reporting use cases by ensuring data is structured, complete, and reliable
- Enable future advanced analytics and AI use cases by improving data readiness and availability
- Create and maintain architecture artifacts such as data flow diagrams, logical data models, and dependency maps
- Partner with product owners, engineers, and other vendor partners to translate operational needs into clear data requirements
- Capture and track data integration efforts in Jira across as identified across multiple products
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data environments
- Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and data governance principles
- Experience working with complex systems in regulated or federal environments
- Familiarity with managing sensitive data, including privacy controls, access restrictions, and audit requirements
- Ability to clearly document technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments
Desired Skills:
- Active Secret clearance preferred, with ability to obtain and maintain clearance as required
- Operational Medicine or healthcare data expertise preferred, but not required
- Cloud platform certifications such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with an emphasis on data services
- Data or analytics certifications related to data engineering, data architecture, or data governance
- Enterprise or solution architecture certifications

In compliance with pay transparency guidelines, the annual base salary range for this position is $125,000 - $175,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. T-Rex considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
