The role involves leading customer implementations, embedding with teams to deliver full-stack solutions, and translating feedback into product enhancements.

The magic of small teams can exist at any organization.

We started Span to address a pattern we'd all lived: as teams expand, context is buried under layers of meetings, tools, people and process. Things begin to stall in the "outer loops" like prioritization, allocation, collaboration, and management—areas where mistakes and inefficiencies are arguably more costly.

We are creating a new type of tool that delivers coherent and useful software engineering context for humans and agents alike, a tool that we believe will enable ownership, autonomy, and superhuman impact inside of an engineering organization.

We’re building a future where:

  • Engineering leaders can understand their most precious resource - team time - so that they’re able to invest intentionally, root out hidden costs of toil, and unlock the true potential of their team.

  • Everyone inside the organization can have an intuitive grasp of what’s happening so they’re empowered to make better decisions, operate confidently and deliver predictably.

  • The hours tied up in tagging, status reporting and coordination meetings are automated away so that people spend less time on busywork and more time on the real work.

About the role

Forward Deployed Engineers at Span lead complex implementations with our customers where the stakes are high and the path forward isn't always clear. You will embed with engineering leaders at top-tier organizations to understand their unique challenges, map their workflows, and deliver solutions that create measurable impact on their developer productivity and organizational clarity.

You will work at the intersection of product, engineering, and customer success - building full-stack solutions, shaping integrations, and ensuring our platform creates real value in production environments.

You will be the voice of the customer internally, translating field learnings into product improvements and reusable patterns that benefit our entire customer base.

Success in this role means owning customer outcomes from first conversation to stable production adoption. You will balance speed with quality, technical depth with strategic thinking, and hands-on building with cross-functional leadership.

In This Role You'll
  • Own technical delivery across multiple customer deployments from initial prototype to production scale, embedding with customer teams to understand their workflows and build full-stack solutions that solve their specific problems.

  • Scope work, make pragmatic trade-offs between speed and quality, and write production-grade code across our TypeScript, Python, and data pipeline stack when delivery depends on it.

  • Translate customer feedback into product requirements and create reusable patterns that help the team scale, influencing roadmap priorities based on real-world deployment learnings.

You might thrive in this role if you
  • Bring 4+ years of engineering experience building full-stack products or complex integrations in fast-moving environments, with production-quality code in TypeScript/JavaScript and Python.

  • Have worked with data pipelines, ETL processes, and have integrated Large Language Models into products or workflows.

  • Thrive in ambiguous situations, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and demonstrate ownership over customer outcomes with strong follow-through.

  • Have outstanding communication skills in English, both written and verbal, enabling you to collaborate effectively with US-based customers and internal teams.
