About Us
Dyson is a global technology company that sets out to solve the problems others ignore. We create machines that are different, better and more useful through inventive engineering, relentless testing and a refusal to accept conventional answers.
We are developing a confidential new product category and looking for a Design Engineer who wants to help shape what comes next. This is an opportunity to work on unfamiliar problems, challenge assumptions and turn bold ideas into engineered products that can be made, tested and trusted.
About the Role
As a Design Engineer in the Singapore Design Engineering Team, supporting New Product Category development at the Singapore Technology Centre, you will contribute to the development of new and innovative products from early concept through to production.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, applying practical design skills, structured problem solving and hands-on engineering judgement to develop parts, assemblies and product systems that meet Dyson’s standards for performance, reliability, safety, quality, cost and user experience.
You will help translate technical problems into clear design requirements, create and evaluate design concepts, build and learn from prototypes, and use test results and data to improve product robustness. The role requires a practical, curious and methodical approach to design, with the ability to work independently on defined tasks while collaborating closely with senior engineers, technical leads, external development partners, manufacturing, quality, operations, procurement, test and global engineering teams.
This role is suited to an engineer who is still building depth and breadth in product development, but who is ready to take ownership of defined parts, assemblies and design activities, contribute evidence-based recommendations, and help deliver robust design solutions for a new Dyson category.
Responsibilities include:
Develop product parts, assemblies and design solutions that meet agreed requirements for function, performance, reliability, safety, quality, cost and timing.
Understand the problem at hand and define clear design requirements with measurable targets, including technical, regulatory, manufacturing and cost constraints.
Generate design concepts and evaluate them methodically against requirements to identify suitable solutions, trade-offs and risks.
Apply design for manufacture and design for assembly principles to create practical, robust and production-ready designs.
Create, review or manage 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, tolerance stacks and engineering documentation to support design development, review and release.
Build and support functional prototypes, rigs and test samples for investigation, review, verification and demonstration.
Define and support test requirements that replicate anticipated user behaviour, product use cases and failure modes.
Analyse test results, design issues and failures to identify root causes and develop effective corrective actions.
Monitor progress against agreed plans, prioritise own work effectively and proactively escalate risks or blockers when required.
Participate in design reviews, technical reviews and project discussions, presenting design rationale, evidence and recommendations clearly.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including senior engineers, technical leads, system owners, external development partners, quality, manufacturing, operations, procurement, suppliers and global engineering teams.
Capture learning, design rationale and technical evidence to support future design decisions and continuous improvement.
About You
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Product Development, Mechatronics, Science or an equivalent technical discipline.
Typically 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, product development or a related engineering role.
Experience designing plastic, rubber, metal or mechanical assembly components, with a good understanding of DFM and DFA principles.
Practical knowledge of 3D CAD, 2D engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance stack-up and design documentation, with the ability to review and guide CAD and drawing outputs.
Able to apply established design processes and engineering best practice to deliver robust design solutions with guidance where needed.
Able to understand technical requirements, identify constraints and translate them into practical design work.
Methodical in problem solving, using prototypes, tests, data and analysis to make evidence-based design decisions.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced and ambiguous product development environment, with the ability to plan, prioritise and adapt.
Able to work effectively as both an individual contributor and as part of a cross-functional team.
Clear communicator who can explain technical ideas, design rationale, risks and recommendations to colleagues and stakeholders.
Curious, creative and proactive, with a strong desire to learn, improve and solve engineering problems.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, supplier development, industrial measurement methods, product testing or technical disciplines such as thermals, acoustics, fluid flow, electronics, mechanisms or human factors would be an advantage.
A genuine passion for engineering and the drive to help make products that are meaningfully better.
