Role

We are seeking a Director of Communications & Social Media  to manage PR, social media, content strategy, and corporate marketing initiatives. This role is critical to amplifying our company's voice and growing awareness of runZero.

The ideal candidate loves being immersed in the cybersecurity community and connecting with the innovators in our industry. You know how to engage the media and influencers who are making waves in cybersecurity and can adeptly identify the right opportunities for runZero and our experts to join the conversation. You are a hands-on executor who thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves to write, thinks strategically about content and news cycles, and leverages data to continually boost performance, engagement, and reach.

This role will report directly to our Chief Operating Officer (who heads GTM), and will also collaborate closely with our executive, research, demand generation, content marketing, and our people teams, as well as external agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Communications: Develop and execute a comprehensive global PR and communications strategy that aligns with runZero’s roadmap and business goals.
  • Social Media Leadership: Own the strategy, voice, and growth of our social media channels, fostering a vibrant community through technical engagement and thought leadership.
  • Media & Influencer Relations: Build and maintain deep relationships with key cybersecurity journalists and industry influencers to secure consistent, high-impact coverage and media opportunities.
  • Executive Visibility: Partner with our executive and research teams to elevate their profiles through speaking engagements, awards, and contributed content.
  • Content Strategy: Collaborate with the content and research teams to develop a strategic content plan that can fuel your communications and social strategy, including "atomizing" technical research papers and blog posts into digestible, viral social content and media pitches.
  • Brand Reputation: Act as the primary gatekeeper for brand voice and lead communications for any rapid-response needs or industry-wide security events.
  • Agency Management: Manage and hold external PR agencies accountable, ensuring they are integrated into our workflows and delivering measurable ROI.
  • Performance Tracking: Establish KPIs for brand sentiment, share of voice, PR, and social engagement, using data to pivot strategies in real-time.
  • Awards & Speaking Program: Build and manage an annual calendar of industry awards (e.g., SC Awards, Fast Company) and high-impact speaking opportunities; lead the end-to-end process of identifying themes, drafting technical abstracts, and coaching experts for stage-readiness.
  • Editorial Support: Provide editorial support for marketing and communications materials, ensuring consistency and quality across all communications.
  • Content Production: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce relevant content in a wide array of formats (written content, livestreams, webcasts, podcasts, broadcast media, etc)  that meets the needs of both key stakeholders and our audience.
Requirements
  • Cybersecurity Expertise: 10+ years of experience in PR, communications, or social media, specifically within the B2B cybersecurity space.
  • Exceptional Writing: A portfolio that demonstrates the ability to translate complex cybersecurity concepts into compelling narratives.
  • Media Savvy: A proven track record of securing placements in top-tier business and trade publications (e.g., Dark Reading, SC Media, Wired, WSJ) and building relationships with notable journalists and influencers.
  • Social Fluency: Expert-level knowledge of social media platforms and a pulse on where the "security watercooler" conversation is happening (Reddit, Mastodon, Discord, etc.).
  • Strategic Execution: Experience working directly with founders and C-suite executives and the ability to pivot from high-level planning to "boots on the ground" execution.
  • Data-Driven Mindset: Proficiency with PR and social analytics tools (e.g., Meltwater, Cision, Sprout Social, etc) to measure impact.
  • Collaborative Spirit: A "team-first" attitude with experience working cross-functionally across GTM, product, and people teams.
  • Agility: The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote-first environment where the news cycle moves quickly.
